Apple’s Budget MacBook Details! (Taking Down Chromebook Ain’t Easy) | One More Thing
In the latest episode of “One More Thing,” host Bridget Kerry dives into the intriguing rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming budget MacBook, potentially set for a 2026 release. Speculated to utilize the same processor found in the iPhone 16, the new laptop aims to carve out a niche in the competitive budget laptop market, primarily targeting Chromebooks and affordable Windows machines.
Apple’s history of premium pricing casts doubt on how “cheap” this MacBook can truly be, especially with reports suggesting a likely price range of $599 for students and $699 for general consumers. However, with the continued popularity of older MacBook models, evidenced by Walmart’s ongoing sales of five-year-old MacBook Airs equipped with M1 chips, the customer appetite for affordable Apple laptops is apparent.
Kerry emphasizes the challenge Apple faces in dethroning Chromebooks, which have become staples in educational settings for their affordability and ease of maintenance. She raises questions about whether Apple can incentivize schools to transition back to MacBooks and whether the new model, possibly featuring fun colors and enhanced specs, will be compelling enough to attract budget-conscious consumers.
As Apple balances its identity as a luxury brand with the potential to cater to the everyday user, the episode invites viewers to reflect on the future of affordable MacBooks and what it means for consumers and educational institutions alike.

my thinkpad + Linux >>>> everything
If its 12 inch, I’d buy it. The 13 inch models are too big ad too heavy.
I think the chromebooks are perfect for its purpose. Functional, nobody likes them but so cheap that it's almost disposable.
I thought read somewhere that the chip would be the A19 Pro. This would help capture the budget laptop/Chromebook market especially for students and schools. Knowing Apple, the 8GB is just the base. If you want the 16GB, that would be like an extra $200. If this is successful, Apple stock would shoot up like crazy.
This woman is the main reason why I don't watch CNET anymore. She's so insufferable. Clickbait, shrill vomit isn't content.
You are no more a technical channel. Just marketing whats being made in USA and especially Apple. I am sorry I have to unsubscribe you, after being subscribed for so much long time.
Still want a 12in MacBook format with the new chips and better battery. But then it will eat the iPad Pro’s lunch
Everyone will have one ☝️ next year and years to come
That price would burn a hole in a lot of folks pockets.
I want one
Great editing on your videos as always, a pleasure to watch. 599$ with educational discount would be a total failure. 699$ normal price plus tax would be a joke. When you try to do a switch you go with a better product at the same or lower price from the best selling established competitor (HP Chromebook 14a at 180$ as a budget option or Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook Plus at 599$ as Best overall option before any discount that is now on sale for 350$) . If you are lucky to be successful on the switch then you are raising the price. This is business stupid.

Apple's 90's-00's clear acrylic aesthetic needs to come back (Apple's Pro Mouse – chef's kiss) and would fit the budget category superbly.
In order to buy a computer with an LCD display, I would have to go to the ATM machine and pull out some USD dollars. I'm sure that US Bank Bank would call me and have me verify my PIN number to prove that it's is me.
I have a cromebook about 5 years works great
Apple will sell an F-ton of these to current Mac owners….for the novelty factor alone..
Apple isn’t going to “dethrone” Chromebooks….but a budget MacBook will make serious inroads in the entry-level marketplace. Performance metrics and fit and finish will favor them over the cheap and disposable Windows and Chrome OS garbage machines….especially at a $549 price point.
It has to come in at $499. $599? Might as well go to the air. $499 is the sweet spot. $399? Back the truck up. That would get them back in the school market.
Yeah, as a high school teacher, Chromebooks are everywhere, but kids hate using them and prefer using Apple MacBooks or iPads
More e-waste
My M1 base spec MacBook is my work computer. I don't think the average user needs anything more than that. The only reason I bought a second computer which is my personal computer is because I wanted a 15 inch screen.
Safaribook
If it's not a watered down version of MacOs, I'm all in!
I say this respectfully……why do this? I thought the budget MacBook was the air?
If they go for Chromebooks they would also cannibalize iPads
Wow, Steve Jobs' turtleneck was from a designer! It looked straight from Walmart.
Why sell the M1 Macbook Air in 2025? Because it's still speedy and plenty good for most people.
Apple will die out just like blackberry ,ibm and Nokia before it
There's never been such a thing as a cheap Apple laptop. $699 is a lot of money for most people.
Low cost macbook laptop 900 dollars , MacBook air to be bumped to 1200$ .calling it now .
Please maid a MacBook se and hopefully not more than $600. It would sell like hot cakes. Please release it in early 2026
I switched to mac, because Microsoft keep ruining windows
It all depends on the OS it comes with. Full Mac OS I want, but if it comes with iOS no thanks!
Chromebooks are so terrible I think there might be a good chance for these to catch on.
But it's Apple, so there's a good chance they'll blow that good chance. 🤣
$600 is not a cheap laptop. Its well into mid range and way more than a chromebook's
In my country, a chromebook costs the same as a MacBook air, people and students usually buy cheaper air from previous years.
