Mihalis Sougioul – Arhisan ta organa & Ala (early 50’s) – Video

Mihalis Sougioul, an important Greek composer in the 30’s through 50’s, was also one of the creators of “arhontorebetiko” – a genre combining elements of rebetiko and European style music. Here are two popular such songs of his: “Arhisan ta organa” (performed by Tonis Maroudas) and “Ala” (performed by Dimitris Skoutaris). The videos are taken from the comedies “Santa Chikita” (1953) and “Ena votsalo sti limni” (1952) directed by Alekos Sakellarios, who also wrote the lyrics of the songs. Vasilis Logothetidis (according to many, the best Greek comedian ever) and charming Ilia Livikou are starring in both movies.
