In a fiery press conference today, President Joe Biden slammed what he called “disinformation” about the government’s response efforts to Hurricane Milton as “reckless” and “un-American.”
According to the US National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida as a Category 3 storm, causing widespread damage and putting thousands of lives at risk. In the aftermath of the storm, Biden outlined the government’s efforts to provide relief and support to affected communities, including sending federal assistance and resources to those in need.
However, Biden expressed frustration at what he described as misinformation and false claims circulating about the response efforts, which he believes are undermining the government’s ability to effectively respond to the crisis. “Spreading lies and misinformation in the midst of a natural disaster is not only reckless, it is un-American,” Biden said.
The President called on the public to trust official sources of information and to work together to support those impacted by the storm. “Now is not the time for partisan politics or conspiracy theories,” Biden stated. “We must come together as a nation to help our fellow Americans in their time of need.”
As the recovery efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, Biden urged the public to remain vigilant and to stay informed through reliable sources of information. He also promised to hold those spreading disinformation about the response efforts accountable for their actions.
