Russian President Vladimir Putin made a significant announcement during his visit to Baku on Monday, offering to mediate talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia despite ongoing conflicts in Ukraine. This gesture reaffirms Moscow’s commitment to its historic role in facilitating peace negotiations between the two neighboring countries.
Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan marked his first time in the oil-rich nation since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and since Baku’s successful offensive to retake the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave in September 2023. The President’s willingness to mediate talks demonstrates the potential for diplomatic solutions even in the midst of regional tensions.
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region has a long and complex history, with both sides claiming sovereignty over the disputed territory. Russia has a vested interest in maintaining stability in the region, given its strategic importance and historical ties to both countries.
By stepping in to offer mediation, Putin is positioning Russia as a key player in resolving conflicts in the South Caucasus region. This move also signals a shift away from the ongoing Ukraine campaign, showcasing Moscow’s ability to address multiple international crises simultaneously.
As tensions continue to simmer between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Putin’s offer to mediate talks provides a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding conflict. Time will tell whether his diplomatic efforts will lead to meaningful progress in easing hostilities and fostering stability in the region.

How now? Joking with the term mediation!
😂😂😂
He's a shoe in for the Nobel prize!
Azerbaijan had Turkey, Pakistan, and Israel helping them. Armenia thinking Russia would help was caught off guard not knowing that Russia along with Belarus was secretly helping Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan was able to pay off Putin and his stooges with their oil money. Armenia was left alone to protect itself. I guess Putin now wants Azerbaijan help on its war with Ukraine.
After screwing Armenia completely, he proposes to mediate😂😂😂😂very kind of him
Armenians trust Putin less than the Ukrainians do.
He can’t even defend his own territory. 😂
Just look the other way, NATO. That region is none of your business, and you have enough on your plate with Russia, Iran, NK, and China already…. Move on, nothing to see here.
What does he want? A Nobel Peace Prize nomination?
Um, Putin, your country is being invaded. Remember?
Smart to go on a foreign holiday while your country is being invaded 😎
