Hezbollah militia carries out first retaliatory attack against Israel

In a major escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, waves of Israeli warplanes carried out preemptive strikes against Hezbollah militant targets in Lebanon. The strikes resulted in three reported deaths in Lebanon, according to authorities.

Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite militia based in Lebanon, retaliated by launching its first attack against Israel in response to the killing of a senior military commander. The militia claimed to have fired 320 rockets at Israel in the early morning hours, with Israeli media reporting 200 rockets and approximately 20 drones launched from Lebanon.

Israel’s missile defenses successfully intercepted dozens of the incoming rockets, preventing significant damage and casualties in Israeli territory. The exchange of fire marks a dangerous escalation in the long-standing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with both sides engaging in aggressive military actions.

The situation remains tense and volatile, with the potential for further violence and retaliation on both sides. The international community is closely monitoring the situation and urging restraint to prevent further escalation and minimize civilian casualties.
