Ukrainian army’s newest recruits prepare for war

In the midst of Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia, the Ukrainian army is facing a dire need for more troops on the frontlines. With Russia committing a significant number of troops to the eastern region, the pressure on Ukraine is immense.

To address this urgent need for reinforcements, Ukraine has implemented a new conscription law which has lowered the age limit for new recruits from 27 to 25. However, the majority of the latest army intake consists of older men who are being fast-tracked through an accelerated training programme.

The BBC was granted access to a secret training location in the Chernihiv region where these new recruits are preparing for war. As Ukraine continues to struggle against Russia’s relentless advance, these men are being trained to join the frontline in a renewed effort to defend their country.

The Ministry of Defence in London has estimated that there were 70,000 Russian casualties in Ukraine in just two months, highlighting the intensity of the conflict. With no end in sight to the ongoing war, Ukraine is relying on these new recruits to bolster its forces and stand strong against Russian aggression.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the bravery and dedication of these new recruits serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices being made in the fight for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
