2026 Nissan Sentra | MotorWeek First Drive
The automotive landscape is shifting, and finding a brand-new car for under $30,000 is becoming increasingly rare. Thankfully, the 2026 Nissan Sentra steps up to the plate with affordability and a series of notable updates that enhance its competitive edge in the small car segment.
Recently, the MotorWeek team ventured to the picturesque Scottsdale, Arizona, to experience the latest Sentra firsthand. The 2026 lineup includes the SV, sporty SR, and the returning SL trim, each crafted to meet diverse driver preferences.
Design and Features
While the overall dimensions of the Sentra remain consistent, the updated aesthetic features a bold new V-motion grille and LED projector headlights, which now provide 70% more illumination. This improvement not only enhances visibility but is likely to bolster the vehicle’s IIHS safety ratings. The sleek rear end boasts wider, lower-mounted tail lights, improving usability and style.
Sporty SR models are adorned with striking black accents, including an aggressive front fascia and 18-inch alloy wheels, while the SL trim adds a touch of luxury with 17-inch wheels and quilted leather seating.
Performance
At the heart of the 2026 Sentra lies a trusty 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, delivering 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque through a refined electronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). While initial acceleration might feel unhurried, the Sentra shines on the highway, with smooth power delivery making merges and passing easy.
Notably, Nissan has retuned the CVT, making the driving experience more akin to a conventional automatic transmission—complete with simulated shifts in sport mode for a more engaging drive.
Interior Comfort and Technology
The interior of the Sentra impresses with high-quality materials and comfortable “zero-gravity” seats. A central 12.3-inch display standardizes infotainment across all trims, while select models also feature a 12.3-inch digital cluster. Despite some haptic controls, the user experience remains intuitive, further enhanced by wireless smartphone integration in most models.
Safety is paramount, with features like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot intervention included as standard across the board.
Pricing and Availability
The 2026 Nissan Sentra starts competitively at $23,645, allowing drivers to enjoy a well-equipped car without breaking the bank. With production already underway, these updated Sentras will soon be available at dealers near you.
In a market that often prioritizes price over value, Nissan’s commitment to affordability and functionality is a refreshing approach. Join us on MotorWeek as we delve deeper into the ninth-generation Sentra’s features and performance.
