$7 Vs $126 Italian Food in New York City: A Culinary Journey
In the vibrant heart of New York City, where culinary diversity thrives, one YouTube video takes viewers on a delectable ride through Italian-American cuisine, pitting affordability against extravagance in a delightful showdown. Titled “$7 Vs $126 Italian Food in New York City,” this episode explores whether spending more really equates to better flavors in Italian food.
Affordable Flavor: The Mezza Luna Pizza’s Arancini ($7)
The adventure begins at Mezza Luna Pizza in the Bronx, where Chef Joe Lopresti introduces the classic Arancini, or fried rice balls. Priced at just $7, these hefty spheres, stuffed with beef ragu, mozzarella, and coated in crunchy breadcrumbs, are a testament to high-quality comfort food. Danielle Oteri, a local food expert, describes the Arancini as a staple that not only satisfies but embodies the heart and soul of Italian cooking—a true “meal,” rather than just a side dish.
Mid-Priced Indulgence: Borgatti’s Ravioli ($38)
Next, the crew heads to Borgatti’s Ravioli & Egg Noodles to discover why their Lobster & Ricotta Ravioli commands a $38 price tag. With a lineage spanning over 80 years, the Borgatti family has perfected the art of handmade ravioli. Viewers witness the careful preparation, which includes a luscious filling of fresh lobster and ricotta enveloped in delicate pasta. Viewers can taste the craftsmanship in each bite, revealing a culinary connection that resonates with those who appreciate nuanced flavors and artisanal techniques.
Luxury Treat: Santi’s Roasted Rabbit ($126)
The climax of this culinary saga occurs at Santi, where Chef Michael White presents the Cornelio Al Forno—an intricate preparation of roasted rabbit that embodies luxury at $126. This dish, featuring a rabbit stuffed with Swiss chard and sausage, impresses not just with its price, but with the skillful execution and rich flavors. Chef White’s meticulous techniques elevate basic ingredients into an unforgettable dining experience, igniting the senses and leaving patrons yearning for more.
The Conclusion: Value Beyond Price
Ultimately, the video challenges viewers to reflect on their perceptions of food and value. The delightful $7 Arancini is a powerhouse of flavor and satisfaction, while Borgatti’s ravioli showcases the beauty of tradition wrapped in luxury. Meanwhile, Santi’s roasted rabbit exemplifies the pinnacle of fine dining.

The strongest image that shows all humans are the same deep down. Sonny and Babish, under the headband and the cap, we are all united by the same baldness.
damn i missed you in Little Italy love the show
Of those three dishes I'll take the coniglio-al-forno, and I don't even know if I spelled that right. I haven't yet found a rice that I didn't like so the arancini looks good, but it is a carb bomb. It needs to come with a pillow for the nap after. The lobster ravioli is probably great for someone who loves seafood, but for me it's a hard no. But I do enjoy rabbit (I make a rather credible rabbit stew), and the coniglio-al-forno looks rich and decadent.
7:19 tell me this man doesn't look like young Vito Corleone, I DARE YOU
The French guy cooking, his channel is Alex… he made a series about pasta, and fresh pasta and dried pasta can not be compared, to different experiences… so you have to take that back….ask Alex

I am sitting near my rabbit and he doesn't approve of this food 😢
Italian *American food. Which is actually much better than actual Italian. Yes, I have been to both and can say this without bias and completely objectively. And before you come at me with the "it's 'cause Italians don't cover everything in seasoning or use chemicals" excuse as always, it doesn't matter. That is not my argument. The fact is that Italian American food still tastes better. 😊
LOVE FROM KENYA
Not born in Italy, never been to Italy. Italian person? Alright.
Yay! A proper ending to the series! I also love the ravioli as well. 100 agreed!
Re Babish's italian heritage: There are two kinds of people in the world; Italians, and those who WISH they were Italian 😅 🇮🇹
Love me some good bunny ! All told, the rabbit dish was not super expensive for NYC. You could have made 4 portions from the serving size. Add a $20 side or two and the cost per diner would be around $50 per person, if you drink water.
Babish!!!!! Two of my favorite people together. Both hilarious
when sonny sliced the rabbit with his fork that is asian 19:27😁😁😁
Sonny, I've been a big fan for years, but the music in this one is awful. PLEASE go back to whoever used to choose your music, and turn it down 😅 I've got a headache now 🤯
