In the race to achieve the ‘holy grail’ of clean energy, nuclear fusion, the United States and China are going head to head in a high-tech battle. Fusion has the potential to revolutionize the energy industry by providing nearly limitless energy with no carbon emissions and minimal radioactivity. As the world becomes increasingly focused on sustainable energy sources, the country that achieves fusion first could gain a significant advantage in the global energy market.
China, known for its ambitious investments in clean energy, has been outspending the U.S. in its efforts to commercialize fusion technology. With substantial funding behind their research and development initiatives, China is pushing ahead in the race to harness the power of fusion. If China emerges as the leader in fusion technology, it could bolster its position as a dominant player in the energy industry and potentially control critical energy resources.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is striving to shift more supply chains within its domestic borders and reduce its dependence on foreign energy sources. As the competition over energy resources intensifies worldwide, the U.S. faces the challenge of keeping up with China’s rapid advancements in fusion technology. The outcome of this race could have far-reaching implications for both countries’ energy security and economic competitiveness.
The Wall Street Journal’s exploration of the rivalry between the U.S. and China in the field of clean energy sheds light on the stakes involved in this cutting-edge competition. As both superpowers vie for supremacy in developing the technologies that will shape the future of energy production, the world watches closely to see which nation will emerge as the leader in the pursuit of fusion.

Well, I still don't think it is a bad thing that CCP made all clean energy equipment much cheaper now. Is that a wonderful thing for the entire global environment?
Not that hard if you focus on Advanced Vocational Training. And Upskilling Blue collar workers into White collared workers. It's insane how much of our pre graduate degrees has nothing to do with applicable skills and that schools can charge 2x to 4x times the price for STEM degree in these fields. These should be where the government subsidies should go because these have a direct impact on National Security & Economic Prosperity.
If every engine was electric. We wouldn't have enough lithium for the batteries 😂. Would need 5k nuclear power stations. And would run out of uranium. Fewer babies. More trees
He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the Holy Grail in the castle of aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh
China’s 10X PhDs in Fusion Physics and energy than the US.
Now, that means we have to rely on the rest of the world for talents. At some point, quantity has it own advantage.
There are likely reasons the US is slow walking…we need to find a way to get rid of nuclear weapons around the world.
After the Huawei Tri-Fold, and now the Holy Grail, sure do love Chinese to become a Heavenly Central Dynasty of themselves 😂😂😂
Honestly if the US companies can’t get their hands on those super conductors their cooked because I think we’ve only ever achieved a net gain of electricity like once (I could be wrong) and it seems the super conductors would play a big part in scaling their current designs
What a stupid pointless video by WSJ, pushing Chinese Propaganda. China cannot even build a mobile phone that is equal to an iPhone. They cannot build bridges that don't collapse with a stiff breeze. You think they are going to master Fusion technology?
What a a joke WSJ
Now, run the numbers in per capita values.
South Korea is NOT in the Belt and Road!!
Ohhh, poor USA! They are copying you? Well, the USA spies, copies, steals everything too. And it rewrites history all the time.
For example, Wright Bros "aircraft" was a failure. It never flew using its owns means which it is a definition of an aircraft. They used a catapult!!! Even a stone can fly using a catapult!
There are so many examples. The US is just a compulsive cheater whining cuz others are cheaters too!!! Pathetic!
Fun fact : Recently a French company which is making the biggest nuclear fusion project, which includes multiple countries from around the world China, Russia & even US and is worth trillion, they just fired/excluded Russian scientists due to ukraine war, well, they are now working with China on there own nucleare fusion project. Lol. China : Do nothing., win
I can see why we have to be sooo worried about China. If they master clean energy then the world is lost!!
Fusion is always 20 years away. Has been for 100 years. It will take a lot to get me excited about it.
US govt is too busy funding other countries wars instead of supporting its own people
When China stops making coal plants and starts getting rid of them then you can talk about China getting clean.
Doesn't China still have brown outs and rolling black outs?
Necessity is the mother of invention. Humanity will have to figure out a future without fossil fuels, because these Not so natural disasters are not going to stop any time soon. Fusion may or may not be the solution, but the fact is, there will HAVE to be a solution, or else…
The irony is, most of that money comes from the west buying China’s goods.
We only have 94 nuclear reactors in the US. Our grandparents failed us.
stop letting them study in the US
neoliberalism policies are failing when it comes to building infrastructure. China has proved that SOEs are key to building infrastructure.
F Hole🇺🇸USA Can’t do it like They CAN’T WIN WARS. The West is TcRuAnStHs. Go B & Whine and Spend More on Anti-China PROPAGANDA.
Does ‘copying’ matter when it comes to sustainable energy? Surely we should be sharing this technology for the future of humanity.
China could produce things on pennies to the dollar if they had fusion. They could outproduce us at a far lower cost in the future. Especially with state subsidies.
US has too much debt to get anything done. The military industrial complex has indebted America.
how? america has setup labs experimenting many things in china so if anything happens problems like corona virus will take lot of time to reach america
We are just handing China our ideas and technology. China has become the builder of the world. I can’t blame them if we are just leaving ideas on the shelf!
I like how they tried to make this so ominous but it's just the US doesn't want to spend money and is complaining.
The Private Scetor Is Only Interested In Profit. They Only Care About Their Sharholders.
The Sun Is Setting On US Empire😂😂😂
Well. Survival of the fittest. They prioritize technology. We argue about social issues. The results will speak for themselves.
Communism is the future.
You publish a paper for everyone to pursue it. Don't just publish and cry someone else is building based on your research.
😂The importance of Europeans has been ignored, and the American media reports on the competition between the United States and China every day. Besides, how can China copy technologies that Americans themselves have not made?
imagine being against drilling and being for cleaner energy sources🤣🤣🤣🤣
So many Chinese and pro-CCP bot comments here lol
Whatever it may be… Fusion is always 2 years away
🇨🇳China is like a Spaceship🚀. The 🇺🇸U.S. is like the NY Subway/Sewers.
"can be on the grid as early as 2030" who will tell them
Hold it right there!
Last I checked, "think china cares about emitions?" Was still a valid argument. Now what are people supposed to say?
China is also outspending the West in quantum computer development.
China builds while US bombs.
The problem with Americans they think that science is country limited but the laws of physics are the same everywhere in the universe.
Yeah let's all just pretend that European countries don't exist 😮
