In a historic turn of events, President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria has collapsed as rebel forces entered the capital city of Damascus, prompting Assad to reportedly flee to an unknown destination. The insurgents have declared Damascus free from Assad’s rule, ending his 24-year reign. The rebels launched their offensive less than two weeks ago, and the people of Syria have been celebrating across the country in response to the news.
Syrians living in Turkey, the country that has taken in the most Syrian refugees, have been especially jubilant at the news of Assad’s departure from Damascus. In Istanbul, Syrians have been seen dancing, chanting, and waving flags representing the opposition to mark the victory. Many Syrians in Turkey had expressed that they could not return to their homeland while Assad remained in power. According to the United Nations, 3.6 million Syrians have sought refuge in Turkey since the start of the Syrian war in 2011.
The implications of Assad fleeing are significant not only for Syria but also for the wider region. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Syria and how the power vacuum left by Assad’s departure will be filled. DW News has spoken with experts on the matter, including Fawaz Gerges, a Professor of Middle Eastern Political and International Relations at the London School of Economics, to provide insight into the situation.
As the situation continues to unfold, the world will be closely watching to see how this development will impact Syria and the surrounding region. The departure of Assad marks a new chapter in Syria’s history, and the repercussions of this event will undoubtedly be felt far and wide.

Putler's regime lost Syria in 4 days. They were laughing about US retreat from Afganistan in 3 months. Now Putler's regime is collapsing. They lost in Armenia, now in Syria next in Ukraine!!! 🤣🤣
Palestinians could go to Syria?
Now the Palestinians can go to Syria and establish a state for them (:
I hope the light the Syrian people see is not another Taliban candle.
The "god" of rebels, I presume?
DW Nice Job😮🎉
As always, which way will the victors choose, to choose for themselves and the regime they will make for themselves, or of their legacy what the Syrian land and Syrian future can rejoice for as in every turning, this too can be a new day and to see it one only needs to outstretch limitations.
Congratulations to the Syrians from Pakistan🇵🇰.
Plz change your flag🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Who must go?
Bashar Al-Asshat
Remember Israel defeated Iran proxies including Hezbollah. That is the reason why Syria is hopefully free now.
where are assads chemical weapons and who is gona be in charge of them????
You are acting like the fighting is over.
SNA just launched a big operation against the SDF, and Israel is bombing all over Syria right now.
Assad maybe gone, but the Syrian civilwar is larger than that
The Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali has some balls, he obviously loves his country enough to see it succeed. I think I would've just left, fearing retaliation from the anti government rebels, even if I was innocent, I don't care, I would've been gone, you could end up at the hands of a extreme faction of the rebel alliance and end up beheaded. Respect for the Prime Minister.
❤❤❤
Can someone explain how did Assad didn't flee when ISIS reigned for 10 years of terror? When his country was entirely engulfed in war?
And now with mere few land grabs, he just vacated his house?
Fear Syria goes the way of Afghanistan after the Soviets were defeated with all these factions battling each other
Congrats Syrian people – from Korea
He may have taken refuge in either Iran or Russia🇷🇺
Hasn't Assad's plane been lost around Homs?

Syria war: return of the rebels
The irony is that even Syria happened to be more democratic than Russia 😂
Don't you remember Libya and Iraq?
The French and Afghan are relieved to know that a new army has taken the record for fastest surrender and government collapse in modern history.
Imagine if this new government in Syria applied and qualified for NATO membership. Not likely but a real slam to Putin
So it turns out Putin wasn’t exactly telling the truth when he said, 'I’ll always have Assad’s back.' Looks like he’s more of a ‘I’ll have your back… until it gets inconvenient’ kind of friend!
this means that putin will be more forceful with The Ukraine and maybe Georgia too… Ist Scheiss jetzt!
Will this reignite the Arab spring?
