Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has not held back in his criticism of potential replacements for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the upcoming Liberal leadership race. Poilievre made his thoughts known during a public appearance following Trudeau’s announcement of his intent to resign as leader of the Liberal party and as prime minister.
During his speech, Poilievre expressed the need for certainty in the decision-making process, stating “We cannot wait” to determine the new Liberal leader. He went on to slam rumored candidates such as Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney, claiming that they are all cut from the same cloth as Trudeau, stating “They’re all Justin Trudeau.”
One of the key points Poilievre addressed was the controversial carbon tax, which he linked to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s threats towards Canada. Poilievre warned of devastating tariffs that could be imposed on Canada through the carbon tax, with potential consequences including an increase to $0.61 per litre. He emphasized the impact this could have on Canadian industries, suggesting that President Trump would benefit from such actions.
The heated discussion surrounding Trudeau’s resignation and potential replacements has certainly stirred up strong opinions within the political landscape. As the leadership race continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how these criticisms and concerns will influence the future of Canadian politics.

Trump and Pierre will get along just fine.
Liberals with NDP help ruined the country period.
Justin's resignation right after Christmas when Trump had already announced putting 25% tariffs on Canadian goods was the PM giving the finger to Canadians. "You don't like moi any more? Well, lets see how you like it when I prorogue and you don't have an active government when Trump threatens to annex Canada." THAT is our PM: a true narcissist to the core. Election now.
Maid for mental health please.
Pierre is ridiculous to listen to….
The inflation has nothing to do with left or right……. No matter witch side would had office….. the inflation was a no brainer to happen
Please tell us how are you going to solve all those problems? We all know what is going on but the thing is we need solutions no rhetorical speech.
CBCs extremely important question about Elon's emoji use 😂
What a very communist doctrine thing to say!!! Communism sentenced people by association, throwing a whole clan of people into labor camps just because they were connected by genetics. A very Nazi thing to say too, as Hitler sentenced all the Jews to peris in the gas chambers just because they were members of one group.
Not that the Liberals should feel any complex to be associated with Justin Trudeau, on the contrary they should be proud for the way he led the country with his heart and for all the great results of his governing during these difficult times for the whole globe.
If you really want to know what is really going on read the King James Bible. All that is happening is Bible prophecy being fulfilled. Trudeau and all of the rest are not out of control they are doing everything to bring in the Antichrist of the one government and one world religion.
Put you faith in Jesus Christ for your salvation.
Amen great speach
This man has no answers! He will just “ fix” it! Yeah right ! I smell 💩
What really turns me off Mr. Poilievre is why must you continue to bash the Liberals, bash Trudeau. Tell me what will YOU do for Canada. I’m so sick of the negativity.
if you smart you know what to do
What a mess trudeau left the next PM
I can’t wait to vote for this man.
Pierre is a mini Trump, cant stand listening to him. He is only going to give tax breaks to Canadian oligarchs. He likes spreading fear and hate. Discussing issues with your hairdresser, really Pierre? There is nothing out of control except you spreading fear. Pierre will sell us out to the US!
It’s time to put Canada first I use to work with provincial govt 30 yrs ago. Someone needs to do something and it’s long over due
Can you stop complaining how bad of liberals and NDP. You have enough complaints about them. Do something positive, do something solid, instead of keeping on talking all the nonsense please. People start to sick of your complaints about everything. Just do something please!!
This actual goverment simply destroyed this whole country!
This is what happens when you put brainless leaders to drive a country. It is a tragedy what Liberals and NDP did!
Politics aside, Trudeau is a rotten person. Politics in, I don’t trust Pierre. Though he’s still a better choice hopefully
Anyone but PP.
Polievre can only blame Trudeau, but there is no real plan here, just words.
Mini Trump
Everything our future minister says is just common sense. If you don’t understand, wake up—you’re stuck in the matrix. The carbon tax is nonsense. The money is supposed to go back to the citizens, but we’re feeling poorer than ever because of this new law. Who would want to invest in our country with excessive taxes when the neighboring country lets you open the same business without any taxes? Trump won’t waste time taking our jobs.
Canada is the second-largest country in the world, yet we have no affordable housing and an army of just 22,000 soldiers ready to defend the country—pathetic. We pay very high taxes, and we don’t even know what they’re doing with the money.”
I hate the Liberals
Can't wait for Poilievre to cut taxes, cut healthcare and infrastructure spending, cut CPP and OAS, cut childcare benefits, cut education, cut the dental care plan, cut welfare, and boost our military spending and his own pension.
The reporter at the end yelling her question about Pierre and his team attending Trump's inauguration is already exhausting to listen to. She seems utterly desperate to conflate Pierre with Trump. Trump's rhetoric about Canada becoming the 51st state is actually a gift to Polievre as it allows him ample opportunity to demonstrate that he will not be a Canadian mini Trump or Trump's lapdog.
I thought the way Pierre talked about the US to be surprisingly tough/hardline. He didn't fall into the trap of pleading or grovelling but also avoided resorting to mocking it and brushing it off. It is a serious threat from a very powerful neighbour being run by an unpredictable leader. It will be a complex relationship to navigate going forward and I thought Pierre represented the feelings of Canadians well.
