Hamas responds to Israel’s denial of Shiri Bibas’ body from Gaza

Israel and Hamas are once again at odds following a recent incident involving the return of bodies from Gaza. The body of Shiri Bibas, a missing Israeli woman, was believed to have been returned from Gaza, only for forensic testing to reveal that it was not her.

Along with the body falsely believed to be Shiri’s, three other bodies were returned and identified as her young sons, Ariel and Kfir, as well as peace activist Oded Lifschitz. However, the mix-up with Shiri’s body has led to accusations from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Hamas deliberately misled them by placing the body of a Gazan woman in the coffin.

Hamas has responded to the accusations, with spokesman Ismail al-Thwabta explaining that Shiri’s remains may have been mistakenly mixed up with other bodies during the chaos of an Israeli air strike. The group has promised to investigate the error that led to the wrong remains being sent to Israel.

This latest incident has strained the already fragile ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with tensions once again running high between the two sides. The mix-up with Shiri Bibas’s body has only added to the complexities of the ongoing conflict in the region.
