Is a US-Canada Trade Deal in Jeopardy After Trump Expresses Doubt Ahead of Deadline?
In recent developments, U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced significant skepticism about the ongoing trade negotiations with Canada, raising concerns about their viability ahead of a critical deadline. With the August 1 deadline fast approaching, Trump has disclosed that he is "not hopeful" about achieving a consensus, a statement that has sent ripples through economic circles on both sides of the border.
The implications of this uncertainty are profound. Should the negotiations collapse, Canada could face substantial tariffs on goods entering the United States, potentially soaring to as high as 35 percent. This escalation in tariffs would have a cascading effect on Canadian industries, exporting sectors, and overall economic stability, leading to fears of retaliation and trade wars.
In reply to Trump’s pessimism, Canadian officials have reiterated their stance that any agreement would require careful deliberation and time to finalize. The Canadian government is keenly aware of the stakes involved and has signaled a willingness to negotiate, but the clock is ticking as the deadline approaches. The timing poses a unique challenge as both nations grapple with their economic priorities.
As the negotiations unfold under this cloud of uncertainty, stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation. Businesses, economists, and lawmakers alike are weighing the potential repercussions of a trade deal failure, which could widen economic rifts and lead to unforeseen consequences for both the U.S. and Canadian economies.
With the deadline looming, the outcome of these negotiations hangs in the balance. Will both nations find common ground, or will Trump’s doubts become a reality, derailing what has been a delicate negotiation process? The coming days will prove pivotal in determining the future of U.S.-Canada trade relations.

You want war more then tariffs
Trump want war
May us mankind have peace among areselves for ever together
Liberal party doesn’t need help from Trump to destroy Canada, they’ve been doing a fine job on their own over the last decade.
Elbows Up LmFaO
Yea, let's trade more overseas so the carbon king can tax us even more on imports. 🤔
👏 👏 👏 Maybe Carney should put his pride aside & make a deal. Like it or not at least Trumps got legitimate trading partners already lined up. We got trudeaus baby-sitter trying to wait for the best deal? 🤷♂️
💯 facts!
Canada is such a pathetic non serious country. How does a country with so much land have a housing crisis? What an absolute joke of a government running the show up there.
Yep…after the East inflicted the Liberals again on all of us. At least after the collapse, they'll be gone and the West can look at options elsewhere…
Trump & Carney are buddies…..politics kabuki theatre to soothe the masses who drink the Kool aid. Vote harder folks. Canada is gone. 😢😢😢
The entire world is moving ahead with Trump.
Keep up this stupid attitude and we will be left behind. I hope you baby boomers are happy with this prime minister. You've doomed us all.
Canada stand strong. Three and a half years to go and the clown show will be over.
Call it for what it is – Trump never wanted a deal in the first place.
We're sick of your crap. Canada doesn't care. This is the second time you cried this crap. We are not feeling the pinch. 10 countries started ordering everything the US was ordering. Don't believe the crap coming outta these government funded news agencies. All they do is incite fear.
TRUMP JUST DOESN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH CANADA.
HIS INTENTIONS CLEAR FROM DAY 1.
TRUMP WANTS CANADA AS 51 STATE !!!!!
I accepted the fact that working with the states was over a couple of months ago , as far as Trump is concerned he's made it perfectly clear that Canada doesn't matter so be it , it's time to move on and dissolve our association with the states .
Sorry to say, Carney can act tough but this is a fight he can't win.
the liberal party is more of a threat than trump… no budget , illegally using emergency powers to take away our rights , allowing taxpayer funded cbc to turn off comments and spew biased propaganda with impunity while rewarding this totalitarian monstrosity with pay increases… elbows up so the taxman has unfettered access to your pockets and dont mind the people on the street as you line up at the food bank.. a flood of illegal immigrants overwhelming our system and causing crime rates to soar… trump is against all of this so how is this anything but the fault of carney and his incompetent band of trained woke seals….
there is not going to be a deal with mr. nothing. he dones nothing he go to europe go on vacation only reason why he was elected because people of canada dont want him to do nothing
There is not going to be a trade deal. There is no deal to make, Canadians are going elsewhere. We are not being screwed by Trump.
Who cares Canada dosen't need us anymore they have huge deals with the E.U.
Be happy its only tarrifs not b52 s
Canadians are not going to be paying tariffs to the Donald. We have decided to find new friends who want to treat us respectfully. And we will treat them as like.
It’s just a matter of time before the USA falls flat on their face. You can all thank Donald Dupe.
Trump is a failure hes been a failure all his life and money does not make a person a sucess i never liked him the moment i heard of him he had thieves logic.
NAFTA is already in place . They don’t see a need for more it seems . The trips to Washington they are having are mostly theatre at this point
Just a reminder that Trump is a zero-sum negotiator. He has never been interested in any form of a fair deal.
Us never intended to have a deal. Canada can move forward.trump can syck it
Trump revokes deals on a whim. The existence of a deal he will ignore with no warning isn't important
Trump is drunk if not on drugs…😅
Carney won’t make a deal.
Canada elected a super economic genius who is great at negotiating in a crisis. It’s just too bad he can’t negotiate an economic deal in a crisis. But perhaps he doesn’t want to. His investments are mostly all in the US except for three Canadian stocks. Maybe he doesn’t want a deal because it won’t be good for him personally.
Can’t hurt the Dairy Cartel
Exactly what is it we need from the U.S.? That country sucks incredible amounts of money out of Canada. Even the oil we sell them we sell at a discount. We also own over 430 billion in U.S. treasury bills and for some reason are purchasing more than any other country since Carney got elected. There is so much going on under our noses that doesn't seem to make sense. Are there any good investigative journalists left anymore? Do we need to rely on podcasts to find things out?
Trump still thinks we pay the tariff , sorry yank , you pay the tariff !
A US Canada trade deal was doomed the minute people elected Carney.
Ankles up 😊
