Emma Stone Says Spider-Man Press Tours Are ‘Psychotic’

Emma Stone recently participated in a Vogue video interview where she ran through her iconic fashion looks over the years. A yellow dress she wore to the 2014 London premiere of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ prompted memories of the highs and lows of playing Gwen Stacy in the short-lived Marvel franchise. The highs were the cast and crew. The lows were the global press tours.

“I really loved doing ‘Spider-Man,’” Stone said. “I loved everybody I worked with. I met Andrew [Garfield] there. I met Sally Field. Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special time in my life. That’s a recurring theme: The people more than the film itself is what sticks with me for so long. I only have fond memories of this experience.”

“I will say the press tours for these films… I don’t know how people do it,” She added. “I remember it being nine countries in two weeks. You’re functioning in a state of jet lag previously unknown to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time. I’m half dead.”

Stone debuted as Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Directed by Marc Webb, the movie served as a reboot for the web-slinger on the big screen after Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s original “Spider-Man” trilogy. The trio made a sequel, 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” but the film’s mixed reception resulted in the series’ end and led to Sony striking a deal with Disney’s Marvel Studios to bring a new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Garfield returned as the superhero in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which powered to $1.9 billion at the worldwide box office on the strength of Garfield teaming up with fellow web-slingers Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. He’s been outspoken since about his interest in coming back for a fourth time.
