Genetically Engineering Mouse DNA: A Promising Approach to Curb Lyme Disease
In the quest to combat Lyme disease, a revolutionary new strategy is emerging, shining the spotlight on an unexpected player: wild mice. In the upcoming episode of “60 Minutes,” scientists explore the potential of genetic engineering to decrease the transmission of this growing health threat, which is often associated with deer and ticks.
Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness that can lead to serious health complications, has seen a significant rise in cases across the United States. Traditional approaches to control or eliminate the disease have focused primarily on controlling tick populations or protecting deer, but these methods have had limited success. The innovative research covered in this episode suggests that altering the DNA of wild mice could disrupt the life cycle of the Lyme disease bacteria, thereby reducing its spread.
With insights from leading experts, “60 Minutes” delves into the intricacies of this cutting-edge science and the ethical considerations that accompany genetic modifications in wildlife. As this groundbreaking research unfolds, it raises important questions about the future of disease management and the role of genetics in public health.
Join us as we examine how understanding and manipulating mouse DNA could hold the key to controlling Lyme disease, offering a new avenue in the battle against this persistent health issue. Tune in to hear firsthand from the scientists pushing the boundaries of current research and discover what the future may hold in this fight against Lyme disease.

Really? $120k percapita income and 2 billion gdp, in 2023, they cant pay this local DR? this is nonsense, and makes no sense.
There is only one way to do this.
Gain Of Function.
I wouldn’t trust it
Fort Detrick???
This will work as long as scientists continue the project.
Hmm very interesting. Lyme warrior here recovered after 5 years in a wheelchair and seizures every 2-3mins with feeding tube. Science is my background and even I am having a difficult time knowing which way to lean? Into curiosity, technology advancements that HELP humans, and investigation into possibilities, vs allowing Mother Nature to remain untouched and wild, free and sovereign. Ticks in general, what and where did they originate and what is their purpose for the ecosystem? We can go down so many rabbit holes, and in this day and age… WE MUST! I’m grateFULL for all the Souls with intentions to help those who suffer deeply. Thank you for the education and intrigue!
Remember what happened last 1000 times we messed with nature? It didnt go well.
