Your skin is the largest organ in your body. On top of the skin, especially the face, is the acid mantle. This acidic, protective barrier houses millions of microbes that protect you.
Putting the wrong products on your skin can negatively affect this environment, leading to redness, rashes, acne, dry skin, and other skin problems.
Avoid the following 11 products that ruin your skin!
1. Apple cider vinegar
ACV is too acidic for the skin. It can cause irritation and redness. If you want to use it on your skin, dilute one teaspoon into 8 ounces of water.
2. Lemon juice
Don’t put lemon juice on your face or hair! It contains a phytochemical that can cause problems when you’re exposed to sunlight.
3. Essential oils
Some essential oils, such as cedarwood and tea tree oil, are simply too strong for the skin.
4. Bergamot
Combining bergamot with sun exposure can cause skin inflammation.
5. Baking soda
With a pH of 9, baking soda is too alkaline for the skin. It can damage the acidic environment, compromising the beneficial microbes on the skin.
6. Toothpaste
Harsh ingredients like peroxide and fluoride should not be used on your skin.
7. Rubbing alcohol
Alcohol kills the microbes on the surface of your skin. This can allow the overgrowth of unfriendly bacteria. Many creams and lotions contain alcohol, so be sure to check the ingredients of your skin care products.
8. Hydrogen peroxide
This is effective for removing stains on the teeth and for cleaning, but it’s not suitable for use on the face.
9. Hair dye
Hair dye used for your eyebrows and eyelashes can be very dangerous to your eyes.
10. Topical steroids
Redness, irritation, and flakiness are often treated with topical steroids without second thought. Topical steroids stop the growth of skin cells and the production of collagen.
11. Exfoliating scrubs
Frequent use of exfoliating scrubs can scrub off the microbiome of your face.
It’s beneficial to get a filter for your shower head to reduce skin exposure to chlorine and fluoride. Opt for makeup that is free of chemicals and fragrance!

🎉🎉🎉
Is it ok to use olive oil or coconut oil in your face?
Thank you!
Suggestions for seborrheic dermatitis
Why are people putting acv on their face?
What about coffee ☕ scrub??
Toothpaste get's rid pimples and bumps overnight
Kinda weird how i just put tea tree oil on my face and this video pops up…
I use diluted baking soda shampoo and then rinse. Then I use diluted vinegar as a conditioner. It is very simple, cheap, and non-toxic. It leaves the scalp slightly acidic.
I'm astonished at the things people are willing to put on their fsce in the name of beauty!
Interesting video. How about daily moisturizers to relieve dry skin??? Especially at this current time of year…
Remember you need to remove the dead skin from your face. Water a lone might not clean your skin. Depending where you live, you can have many unwanted chemicals in the air. Key is to be gentle with your face and go as natural as you can. If you live in an area that’s industrial or agricultural, or blown in dirty air, you need to make sure you keep your skin clean.
I only wash my face with just plain water and avoid touching my face throughout the day. I also regularly wash my pillow case on a weekly basis to rid of any oil/dead-skin/debris build up from sleeping on it for 8-9hrs a day. Healthy diet helps too, since the body will try to expel any toxins/etc through the skin (if not through the usual bowel movement).
Summary
– Your face has an acidic microbiome (pH 4.5–5.5) that protects your skin — avoid disrupting it.
– Never put on your face: undiluted ACV, lemon/lime juice, bergamot in sunlight, strong essential oils, baking soda, toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, hair dye near eyes, or daily exfoliating scrubs.
– Topical steroids thin the skin, damage collagen, and mess up the microbiome.
– Over-sterilizing or over-scrubbing destroys good bacteria → more irritation, redness, acne.
– Use gentle skincare, avoid harsh chemicals, and choose low-toxic makeup/fragrance-free products.
How many idiots keep doing this that you had to make a video?
Thank you. Can we wash face with Dove soap in the evening?
While my face is still wet after shaving, I use a pinch of ACV in my palms on my face as an astringent and "slap" it on. 🙂
Thanks Doc. ❤️
My granny never used any cream in face. Just pumpkin in seazon she just would take piece and put around face or hands, as it has vitamin F. Her face was still as a child skin. And opposite, i know woman who used all the best creams all her life and her face looks dreadful.
Then why is it good to drink ACV?
I use acv and baking soda together. Balances ph I guess in hindsight. But also “watered” down with an egg, some honey maybe wagyu tallow and why not throw some turmeric and ginger or seamoss whatever herbs you like. Don’t keep it on too long. Moisturize immediately after.
All the principles and reasons you mentioned not to put this stuff on your face, is the same for your teeth. Your teeth depend a plethora of microbes to maintain the balance between good and bad bacteria to stimulate the health of your teeth.
Hair dye on eyebrows ahhh 😮!!
please stop over use ai its unpleasant to watch, its much better to watch you dr berg, and this AI examples is too much detailed (hard to watch)
How about pomelo oil? Bad or good for skin?
I had a lump for years on my jawline which started bleeding one day. It wouldn't stop so I grabbed Apple Cider Vinegar and pressed a tissue against it for an hour. It finally stopped bleeding and scabbed over but I continued applying a tissue soaked with Apple Cider Vinegar for a couple of weeks. The lump I had for years completely went away. No irritation, no damage to my skin. 👈
Edit: I think it was Basal Cell Carcinoma.
❤❤❤
My mom mixed viniger and mineral oil. Put it on her face before going in the sun..she had the brst skin and never had any skin cancer.. Go figure
I would never put stuff on my face I don’t know anything about. I do drink 1 tbs ACV with lemon juice pinch of salt ginger, turmeric w/bp, and cinnamon mix with reverse osmosis water drink every morning. @noon I take my vitamins. I find that works well for me.
I use Korean mask once maybe twice per week and the Korean skincare every day and night.
Thanks again Dr Berg!Appreciate all your videos I learned a lot from you!
🥰🇨🇦
I put full strength ACV just on a cis on my face and it went away
Thank you dr eric
i have benefited a lot from the videos you post
I use a fulvic mineral mist that has a pH of 7.8-9. I haven't noticed any ill effects.
Never thought to put any of this on my face lol.
I took off many skin tags using lemon juice. It takes a few weeks but it really works!
ACV to spot treat pimples, works well
There's a YouTube lovely lady who swears by Rosehip Seed Oil. Thoughts? I ordered some as she's 70 and looks 40 but the stuff smells awful to me so I didn't use it. What's your take on using Ivermetcin for Rosacea? The cream is what I'm referring to. Love you channel Dr. Berg. It's shocking to me how little the average public knows about their health!
I only use coconut oil

(Currently just completed my 72hour fast as i type this!! Hence my mums curiosity)
I use a dab of non-gel Toothpaste where I see a pimple or ingrown hair coming. It somehow helps to bring out the infection to the top and I van gift it a light bit of pressure and it releases the gunk and goes away.
Amazing work
I’m 75 and I use castor oil and coconut oil too. I only use blush on my cheeks. So good
