Two Very Different Sides of the Philippines: Tourists & Locals
In the latest episode of Gabriel Traveler, we delve into the stunning dichotomy of Boracay Island, a tropical paradise known for its breathtaking beaches and vibrant tourist scene. Gabriel takes us on a journey that reveals the striking contrasts between the bustling tourist zones and the quieter local towns, shedding light on the island’s diverse experiences.
Narrated on a clear, warm day, Gabriel describes the famous White Beach, lined with resorts and restaurants frequented by visitors from around the globe. Here, the azure waters and pristine sands lure travelers seeking the ultimate beach getaway. The lively atmosphere is palpable as beachgoers soak in the sun, sip cocktails, and partake in various water sports.
However, just a short walk away lies the island’s more understated side—an authentic glimpse into local life. Gabriel ventures into the nearby tribal village, showcasing the everyday realities of the residents. This area, contrasting sharply with the glitzy tourist zones, reveals the simplicity and charm of the local culture, complete with its homes, small businesses, and street vendors offering a taste of traditional Filipino life.
Through stunning visuals and engaging storytelling, Gabriel highlights the importance of experiencing both sides of Boracay—where the allure of tourism meets genuine community spirit. This journey not only enriches travelers’ understanding of the island but also invites them to appreciate its complex beauty.

Sixth. Is the hotel la Carmela ?
Do a day trip to Carabao Island for a more authentic and laid back experience.
Boracay has its virtues, obviously (gf and I visited just before the ‘pandemic’), but Coron (for example) is so much more rewarding. Good price on the room, though.
I feel like the appeal of places like this drop significantly when a meal is like 15 bucks. I remember when I went to Thailand in the 00s and ate for like a 1/3rd or less of what it cost at home
Try d-mall at station 2 a maze of shops, outside everything, restaurant's a very nice place
Gabriel! If u have time try going to Batangas! Theres alot of gorgeous beaches there!
I was just reading 10 most dangerous places for tourists, some obvious but included the Phillipines. Kidnapping, ransom issues. I was surprised.
