From Latin America to Europe – The dangerous schemes of human traffickers | DW Documentary
Women in Latin America are recruited with brutal methods, then enslaved in Europe. A survivor recounts how she was lured to Spain with the promise of a job, then forced into prostitution.
A young woman from Latin America applies to a modeling agency in Spain. Flight, accommodation—everything is paid for. But when she arrives, her papers are taken away and she is forced into sex work, first in Spain, then in Germany. The reason given: she had to repay the travel expenses. Only the police can free her, during an undercover operation.
Sebastian Eichler from the Mainz Criminal Investigation Department conducts his investigations as follows: He responds to online ads as a fake client, then reveals himself as a police officer during the appointed meetings. “It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack,” says Eichler, “to take action against the perpetrators, we need the women’s statements.”
But often, the women remain silent out of fear. Because the perpetrators not only pressure the women, but also threaten to harm family members back home.
Human rights organizations and law enforcement agencies are monitoring this phenomenon. They suspect that the narcos — Colombian drug cartels—have now entered the business. In Spain, Carmen Gonzalez of the Policia Nacional reports initial successes. Her special unit has managed to dismantle a network.
Manuela Schon and her team from the Women’s Affairs Department of the City of Wiesbaden note that more and more women are being offered for sex in private apartments and hotels. For them, a ban on the purchase of sex based on the Swedish model would be the solution. There, clients are severely punished, while the women remain unpunished. France also follows this abolitionist model. Yet human trafficking occurs there as well.
In Vienna, the UN Special Representative on Organized Crime has convened the first international congress for victims of human trafficking. Over 30 survivors recount their stories and identify the root causes: poverty, displacement, and gender inequality.

Citizen Vigilante
that hidden corner is truly terrifying
0:53 WTF?
In The Netherlands at least, the Columbian and Moroccan criminal networks work side by side. The Columbians do the trafficking, the Moroccans do the handling and pimping.
I was in law enforcement years ago in Los Angeles and we worked very hard trying to free women from prostitution. Eventually, we became very frustrated by the lack of interest and cooperation from the women because they really didn’t want to give up the lifestyle and the money they earned. They refused to testify against their abductors, pimps, customers or anyone involved, so we couldn’t prosecute the suspects. The most aggravating aspect of this work was that within months of gaining their freedom the majority of women returned to working as prostitutes. The money what was most important to them – not their families or children or health or future or the risks to their lives.
Banning will just drive it underground making it worse for everyone.
Women and children have been treated as a commodity universally from time immemorial and we have Epstine files 🧐🙄😤🤔
I wrote to so many international agencies including Interpol, ICJ, United Nations to find out how I can VOLUNTEER to help stop human trafficking but did not receive any response! There are lots of people wanting to help and go international in stopping this but don't get opportunity. Too bad! 🙁
Crazy
Same price in the USA 😂
When I remember Epstein as an example, I think we have a very long way to go! 🥺
My father helped do computer stuff for a brothel in germany. My mom divorced him and he showed up to my first day of school with a young woman doing sexwork ruining my whole day as that is like the only thing i remember from that day
If these places were not legal, the police could just scoop them up and help them right away! It's ridiculous to make p't'n "legal." As it is, it is IMPOSSIBLE to make safe.
Oh what a surprise! Let's punish the women being abused, but the politicians and men in power that create the demand and facilitate the human trafficking are NEVER investigated.
Demand makes supply – supply is inexhaustible because there is almost unlimited amount of young women to trap. Destroy demand but you can't because those are your politicians, owners and all big money.
Very interesting documentary.
Beware most of the women in the Caribbean are also deep in prostitution and dealed by cartels also Central America and Shitxico a lot of women are sold to sex slavery
Terrible underworld.
German language sounds ❤❤❤❤
As long as they are working 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Saving this so I can watch it later! Thank you for your educational documentaries, dear DW. I am absolutely obsessed with your work. ❤
Great documentary
We should help these women who are trafficked but banning this does not help. Look at the US – we already have laws against this and it hasn't made one bit of difference. It just moved underground and made things worse!
Then there won't be soldiers who are praised for death, there will be free medical treatment, there will be humanity to accept work and love
Is it so?
God bless few, rest are poor salves
Making this "industry" legal on the surface didn't help, did it. People who see pros feed this problem. Excess demand spills over into trafficking of adults -and minors.
Great content as always DW 💯 !! Greetings from Yerevan, the capital of ARMENIA. 🟥🟦🟧
aaaah majority of them are willingly here in prostitution.. NOT ALL OF THEM ARE FORCED. this is the catch… THEY ARE ACTUALLY WILLING TO DO IT. it brings them incomes that latin america never will. some of them are even married and they send money home…. imagine making 150 per 30 min here in EU or latin america…. they work for a few years and then return… not everyone is FORCED into this… jesus
A minute and 15 seconds in, I know it worth watching.
