Taylor Swift‘s guest appearance on now-husband Travis Kelce‘s podcast, New Heights, was always going to be memorable, from the fact that she announced her 12-week Billboard 200-topping album, The Life of a Showgirl, on the episode to the rare insight she shed on her personal life. But unbeknownst to the pop star at the time, it was also a precursor to one of the biggest moments of her life: getting engaged.
And on the latest installment posted Wednesday (July 8), Travis and cohost/brother, Jason Kelce, reflected on their favorite moments of the last season of New Heights. “Starting it with Taylor — pretty epic,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said, naturally.
“During that recording, the entire time I’m planning, like, ‘I’m gonna ask this woman to marry me after this,’” he recalled. “Obviously, the beginning of [the season] with Taylor is one I’ll remember forever. It was pretty fun.”
In the August episode — which is the most viewed upload on New Heights‘ channel by a long shot — Swift opened up about falling in love with Travis back in 2023, buying her master recordings after a yearslong battle to reclaim her first six albums and her fixation with baking sourdough bread. As was later revealed, the Grotesquerie star had also used it as a distraction to keep Swift occupied while a crew set up a magical proposal site outside, where he popped the question after they finished recording.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the 14-time Grammy winner shared on Instagram later that month.
The new episode comes less than a week after Travis and Swift got married in New York City, where they hosted a massive celebration with a reported 1,000-person guest list at Madison Square Garden on Friday (July 3). After a ceremony officiated by Adam Sandler featuring long, tearful vows — part of which the Eras Tour headliner apparently sang — Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks treated the crowd to performances at the reception.
Guests have stayed relatively quiet about the wedding considering its scale, but one person, Ashley Smith — whose brother is Travis’ teammate Trey Smith — revealed that she caught Swift’s arrangement of sweet peas and Queen Anne’s lace during the bouquet toss, while others shared that the newlyweds had games available to play for raffle tickets that they could use to win extravagant prizes. One of them, a $6,400 bag from Chanel, went to Jackie Tranquill, who is married to another Chiefs player, Drue Tranquill.
