The most interesting part for me wasn't the price. It was Tesla saying every robot could learn from the others. If that works, it's a huge advantage.
I'm trying to stay realistic. Elon has made bold predictions before, but if Optimus becomes genuinely useful for home chores, it could be one of Tesla's biggest products ever.
Tesla always aims big. The question is whether Gen 3 is really that much better or if we're just seeing another ambitious roadmap.

Amazing!
Fanuc KUKA ABB Rockwell Siemens Cognex Schneider Honeywell Omron etc etc etc
All these companies have been replacing people with automation for decades so why aren't they making humanoids?
Do all of them lack foresight? Are they sitting around waiting for a humanoid or AMR or "Physical AI" to use their products? No, they have already incorporated AI into them! The "AI revolution" has already been underway. There is nothing new happening except now the tech bros want mechanical slaves and don't realize they already have them. Smart automation already exists. "Physical AI" is just a new buzzword.
We see how Amazon is replacing people and it's not with humanoids. Because robots ALREADY use Vision and AI and they don’t look like humans because humans are limited. (they have to climb ladders, hands too big for small things etc.)
UNDERSTAND THIS
Automation has been replacing people in factories for decades and it hasn't stopped. So if a humanoid can do it, it’s ALREADY automated! (1) Because a humanoid IS just automation. So there are NO jobs for it in a factory! just look at history(2)
BMW is trying to use them but a configurable AMR would have far fewer parts and therefore better reliability and performance at a lower cost than a mass produced complicated humanoid robot with weak fingers instead of strong grippers.
There is a company making autonomous mobile welding robots because it makes more sense than a humanoid welder. Should a future robot electrician or plumber have built in power screwdrivers, wire stripper, wrenches etc. and cameras at the tools? Or is a humanoid going to stick his head under the sink to fix it, lug hand tools around, etc?
Many seem to think factory jobs are easier than other jobs, they are not. A lousy housekeeper won’t cut it. Even if it had a brain it couldn't work at McDonalds because the hands can't bag items, make change, crack eggs, wrap burgers etc. Also it should be obvious that AGI does not need a humanoid to replace someone working at a desk. But they would be really nice if a handicapped person could use it as a telepresence to go shopping, do simple chores, etc. TAM will be small. There will be more AMR's than "working" humanoids.
__________more __________
Look at it this way. If AGI could assemble widgets or do surgery or manicures, etc. it would need special tools not batteries, hands and legs. Optimus is not strong enough to dig a hole or help someone get up off the floor. It can't work at McDonalds. Can it wash its hands? How long would it take it to change gloves, start a roll of tape etc.? A humanoid MUST do a job on par with a person because workplaces are made so people along with machines maximize asset utilization. That is why you CAN'T just put two humanoids in place of one person.
If you have a trade job, you’d realize it would be impossible or impractically slow to do it with robot hands. No amount of AGI Learning or training is going to make clumsy hands better with tools, scissors, small parts etc. Making hands equal to a person is impractical and unnecessary.
Hot, heavy, dirty and dangerous jobs. There are 100s of millions of them around the world. And if a humanoid could actually do it, LOL, most of those jobs pay super low wages in places where there is no electricity to charge it anyway.
Most of today's humanoids can't complete the tasks from the DARPA robot challenge 10 years ago !?!
"Optimus will be the best surgeon" !? When AGI can do surgery, it will use existing surgical robots. A humanoid will not wield a scalpel.
"it's a humanoid so it can work in a human environment" The humanoid form or its brain doesn’t matter. What matters is what it can do.
Who will buy them? Not factory or warehouse managers. They can't do trade jobs or hard labor. They will be lousy housekeepers, tour guides, popcorn servers, entertainers etc. ridiculed as toys and criminals will use them for nefarious purposes. At best it could be a checkout clerk that will restock the store at night if it ever really gets a brain. Credit only, robot hands can’t handle money well.
(1) It's first principles. If the goal is to emulate a human then you must make a humanoid/android. But if the goal is doing things that a human can do, then first principles DOES NOT dictate a humanoid. So AI is already "embodied" or "physical". (ill conceived terms, us old folks say, smart sensor or smart tv) And if you do want to emulate a human, you must choose which characteristics you want. It may need sensitive hands to feel slight imperfections or it may need durable hands for hard work. So a one-size-fits-all like Optimus is not practical.
(2) Warehouse managers needed people to store and retrieve items. Now warehouses are full of non-humanoid smart robots. People had to pick parts out of a pile and place them with correct orientation. Now one armed robots do it. People had to pick up parts to inspect and measure them. Now lasers measure them and vision systems inspect them. PID controllers became self tuning. As tech/learning/AI improved, so did machines and machine controllers. Just like computers taking jobs with spreadsheets and scanners. All the while someone was saying a humanoid will soon do the work.
My wife and I are in our 80's and would benefit from household help. We'd like to get two units ASAP.
Elon Musk wealth and matching stupidity and arrogance are a threat to the future of humanity. His robot dreams will most likely destroy Tesla. The market is not there, the AI is not there, the demand is not there.
1$ is still expensive

"Tesla's biggest AI breakthrough yet, bringing cooking, cleaning, and real household assistance closer to reality. This video explores why Tesla Bot Gen 3 may eventually deliver useful work for around $1 per hour."
Elon Musk admitted on Tesla’s Q4 2025 earnings call that the company doesn’t have any Optimus robots doing useful work in its factories.
There will be fight against Human And Robots till 2050
could be… premature hype
Keep Optimus away from Chian 😉
Optimus 3 is ready. 2027 for factories and 2028 as helpers in homes than Optimus 4 for contractors 😂❤
4:28 missed opportunity to say "the design is very human"
My wife and I are 80 and 81 years old. We have a large house with a large garden. The children are married and live elsewhere. We have a housekeeper who works five days a week, and we won't fire her as long as she wants to stay with us. We need a full-time robot and a full-time garden robot. I hope they arrive soon and that they're truly useful.
we all know that China will build the same robot or even better for half price… like they always did.
Just a lot of BS. Not in our lifetime !! 🤣😂
Creepy
Minimum wage in many places is at $15-22/hr. Take the low end, $15. For 2000 hours/year, that's $30,000. It doesn't take ten years to pay back on Optimus. Even if it costs $60,000 and your figure of 100% overhead is correct: payback in four years. If the minimum wage is higher than $15, payback is even quicker.
Yup and the robot won't even think about spying on you for the government. Just like Alexa was some benign tool to help you.
So thy will take our jobs. Fuck this IA robots.
I do want an Optimus. However, I also have specific capabilities to be useful in my life. I eagerly await to compare Optimus to my needs.
Until someone decides they need to provide personal security, then bad actors learn to teach them lethal force, and you end up stabbed in the kitchen with your own chefs knife.
$40000 is still a lot less than a divorce.
Unlikely to last 70,000 hours without major maintenance the actuators in the hands probably only last 5k hours at the best so maintenance cost could come into the range of $5000 a year….. Over the lifetime of 10 years that's 50k and if the initial price tag is 30k= totaling $80k for the 10-year so I think you should adjust the price to about $3 per hour maybe $4 per hour
Apparently it spoke for the first time yesterday it said “I’ll be back”
I'm sure I have seen this in a film before.
You'll never be done paying for these robots – just like buying your home, then having to pay property taxes. Yay. In any case, if you're an able-bodied person or couple who can afford to hire a person who can then support their own families, shame on you.
Exciting times.
9:56 That will be the biggest advantage over humans.
It sounds like your new Optimus would need to spend alot of time sitting around watching Youtube Videos, much like your useless children
"OPTIMUS..CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM!" "beep…I'm watching YouTube!…beep"
