Mountain Village Feast | Traditional Lamb & Fresh Bread
Nestled in the heart of our serene mountain village, a day begins with the golden kiss of sunrise and the fresh scent of nature all around. This is where we find our roots, immersing ourselves in time-honored rituals that connect us to the land and to each other.
Each morning unfolds with the comforting routine of milking our beloved sheep. This simple yet profound task brings us closer to our traditions, reminding us of the warmth and nourishment that nature provides. It’s a humble pleasure that stirs a deep appreciation for the cycle of life we embrace.
Today, as I prepare for our Mountain Village Feast, the first steps lead to the cool, clear waters of the river. Here, we clean lamb’s liver and cow liver, each motion echoing the rhythms of generations before us. There’s a quiet peace in this process—a flowing harmony that connects us to our ancestors.
My mother, a master of her art, takes the fresh sheep milk and whips it into a delightful dough for our traditional bread. Each knead and fold is infused with love and history. Meanwhile, I wander into our vibrant garden, gathering sun-ripened bell peppers, luscious tomatoes, and crisp cucumbers. After rinsing these treasures in the same river, they are ready to elevate our meal—simple ingredients bursting with life.
As I chop the vegetables alongside the prepared liver, a sprinkle of salt, pepper, and turmeric enhances the rich, natural flavors—a testament to the beauty of simplicity in cooking. This delicious mixture is then nestled into a sheep’s stomach to create Kelesence, a cherished dish that connects us to our roots. It finds its home in a traditional clay pot, ready to be baked in our wood-fired oven, filling the air with mouth-watering aromas.
Simultaneously, the bread dough transforms into fluffy balls, joining the Kelesence in the oven. The dance of heat and flavor intertwines, the anticipation swelling in the air like the warmth of family bonds around the table.
To complement our feast, a pot of tea is brewed, a warm embrace to savor while we share the quiet moments together. After tending to our animals and ensuring their happiness, the food is finally ready.
Gathering around to share this traditional meal with my mother becomes a heartfelt celebration. It’s a moment of gratitude, an echo of the labor we put into the day—the perfect ending to a soul-nourishing experience.
Join us in this captivating glimpse into our mountain village life, where traditions thrive, and the simple joys of food and family unfold in the most beautiful way.
