A Song To Remember: A Passionate Journey Through Music and Love
Set against the vibrant backdrop of 19th-century Europe, A Song To Remember is a stirring biographical drama that chronicles the passionate life and tragic fate of legendary composer Frédéric Chopin. Directed by Charles Vidor and featuring a talented cast, the film stars Cornel Wilde as the renowned pianist, Merle Oberon as the free-spirited novelist George Sand, and Paul Muni as Chopin’s devoted teacher, Professor Joseph Elsner.
As Chopin navigates his meteoric rise to fame, the film intimately explores his intense, tumultuous romance with Sand, a relationship filled with both creative inspiration and personal conflict. Muni’s character, Professor Elsner, serves as a guiding force, representing the complexities of mentorship and artistic development in Chopin’s life.
The lush cinematography and grandeur of 19th-century landscapes complement the emotional depth of Chopin’s music, embodying the struggle between artistic brilliance and the frailty of human life. The composer’s declining health looms over his achievements, adding a poignant layer to the narrative that emphasizes the price of artistic immortality.
With its compelling performances and rich storytelling, A Song To Remember not only celebrates the genius of Frédéric Chopin but also highlights the enduring power of music and love, immortalizing the essence of one of history’s most beloved composers.

You give us great movies, Stream City – pity they include so many commercials. 🙄 It’s like watching an old film on TV in the wee hours in the 70s and 80s.
That disclaimer in the beginning was totally unnecessary, nobody listening to chopin can be vulgar or aggressive
❤ heavenly music 🇺🇸🇵🇱🙏 beautiful story and acting!
I can't be more proud to be Polish, like him. I am also away from our homeland. I grew up listening to his music. It always touches my heart. Indeed, he was a great patriot. Music was his weapon against the enemies of Poland. Professor Elsner was right. Chopin's music lives in millions of hearts worldwide. Thank you for posting this movie. ❤❤❤
Ive always loved his music, but had no idea the suffering and sacrifices he endured to evidence his God-given talent.
Bellissimo film con grandi attori
I know he was a great composer and I love his music but he behaved horribly with his teacher who always tried to cover for him and with his own family who he wasn't interested in for years. He let himself be manipulated by a selfish woman, even though she was a very famous writer and I read many of her books, because of this movie I hate her !
Where are Sand's children who should have been present in the story? Obviously, this film is all about romanticizing Sand's personality, only achievable when no kids are around. She was, nonetheless, responsible for Chopin's premature death due to her negligence of his worsening condition.
Such a strange re-imagining of the relationship between George Sand and Chopin–and so little insight into Sand's own artistry. I suggest if anyone wants a better retelling of their story, watch the movie Impromptu. Of course, A Song to Remember is more about the relationship between teacher and pupil. But even there we get a nearly mock characterization of the teacher by Paul Muni with his characteristic overacting. A movie in which Muni seems more authentic (less overacting) is the movie titled I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932).
Chopin seems to have a less important role in this film than that of Paul Muni, whose over-the-top performance distracts from the story, which (in theory) is not about him. It's unfortunate that the studio banned his wife Bella from filming as her presence seems to helped Muni in the films about Pasteur and Zola. It is still a marvelous film, nonetheless and Wilde was nominated for Best Actor.
Heartbreaking.
BTW there was a 6-year age difference between George Sand and Chopin. They were together 8 years and he broke with her 2 years before he died.

Gran película. Gracias por subirla y qué actuaciones!!!
This is actually kind of accurate. George did not see him at his death. She didnt even attend his funeral. Kind of sad, actually.
Thank you. I enjoyed that immensely ❤
The first time I watched years ago was because it was about Chopin whose music I love n always loved the great Paul Muni beautifully done movie🎹❤️🙋🏼♀️
Oberon was beautiful
Chopin is an extraordinary Polish composer and performer whose music still resonates in my heart.
The best composers of all time As a great patriot, his heart was transported to Poland, which he loved so much.
They were already apart for some years when he died.
Totally false image of George Sand, who nursed him for years and would never had retained him for being involved in politics: she was herself a revolutionary engaged women for the folks and for education,
Many thanks. 90 South African. I saw the original and never forgot the music . Took lessons and still play for my own enjoyment. His compositions will live on.
He was a great patriot. The feminist serpent sapped the blood from his heart, but he was redeemed in the end.
i hate that snake
Secret time seeing this. It is an example of real acting.
Paul Muni was a true Master. When he spoke his lines it was as if he was reciting poetry. No finer actor and this was one of his finest roles. 👏
Great film, outstanding performances. 5 🌟 out of 5!
His last words were to his sister.
He was affraid to be buried alive so he wanted to be cut open… then he said poor mother.
