Goulash… what you described that your mother made and called Goulash is still a Goulash. What you are eating in this video is Hungarian Goulash. What your mother, and my mother and hundreds of thousands of other American mothers made was one of many versions of American Goulash.
Of Course Hungarian Goulash is the Original dish called Goulash. But American Goulash is a recognized dish all its own. And there are infinite versions of American Goulash throughout the United States. My mother's version was basically, ground beef, elbow macaroni, tomatoes and a tomato sauce, with onions and seasonings.
And just like any other soup or stew it was always twice as good the next day. And my mother almost always made it a day before she served it. She always said that all the ingredients needed an engagement period before all the flavors became married to each other. She often did the same with soups and stews.
But yes, what your mother made was actually Goulash it just wasn't Hungarian Goulash.
Paprika is like a snake without venom. 😁

12 minutes in and twice you've said 'yellow paprika goes in'. Yellow peppers, or capsicum, as they were clearly not dried. I hope you're not using AI.

Watching this… thta frist gulyás looked kind of bad. You can get far higher quality in Budapest before going to the Michelin version.
17:30 uhm.. lots of Americans do this! I grew up eating frydough! Grandma would save some bread from the morning baking and fry some for lunch! We'd usually put butter, cinnamon and sugar on them, but sometimes We'd have frydough tacos! They're common at fairs in the upper midwest and on most native reservations frydough and frydough tacos are a staple treat!
