The annual discussions on which UNESCO World Heritage sites should be classified as endangered are sparking heated debate among member nations, as tensions rise in the lead-up to the summer talks. This crucial decision will determine which sites are in jeopardy and in need of urgent protection.
At the heart of the issue are disagreements over the criteria used to determine a site’s vulnerability, with some countries arguing for a broader approach that takes into account factors such as climate change and political instability. Others are pushing for a more traditional interpretation of the guidelines, focusing solely on physical threats to the site itself.
The stakes are high, as being classified as endangered can have serious consequences for a site’s preservation. It can lead to increased funding and resources for conservation efforts, but also draw unwanted attention to the risks facing the site.
With tensions running high, the upcoming discussions are sure to be contentious. It remains to be seen which sites will be added to the list of endangered UNESCO World Heritage sites, and how this decision will shape future conservation efforts.

I think all Venetians hope they will put Venice in the list. Maybe then, the corrupted politicians would do something for the city and its residents
UNESCO's founding mission, which was shaped by the events of World War II, is to advance peace, sustainable development and human rights. Not distributing money. But they do, and they ask you to comply with their mission. If you don’t, you don’t get the money. Really clear cut policy. So….comply, and nothing will happen. Do as you wish (you can) and loose the money
A303 is the main road connecting the south of the country to the whole of the south west and a large part of it including the area next to Stonehenge is single lane, one breakdown or accident and it becomes a huge long carpark. its the worst major road in the country due to it being next to Stonehenge, a tunnel is the best option for the road
The US doesn't have such problems 😊 the oldest heritage we have are Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Bryce canyon, Redwood trees etc, which are all protected National Parks with wide open spaces. There have been summer traffics congestion
