In the competitive world of the restaurant industry, one Chinese hotspot chain is making waves for its unique approach to customer service. Haidilao, known for its delicious hot pot offerings, goes above and beyond to provide an unforgettable dining experience for its customers.
Not only does Haidilao serve up mouth-watering hot pot dishes, but it also offers free manicures and massages for patrons. Waiters are even known to perform dance routines upon request, adding a touch of entertainment to the dining experience. These over-the-top performances and exceptional customer service have set Haidilao apart from its competitors in China and now the company has its sights set on conquering the U.S. market.
With fresh funds from a recent public listing, Haidilao is gearing up for expansion across the United States. The company’s decision to not franchise its restaurants sets it apart from other chains, allowing Haidilao to maintain strict control over its operations and ensure consistency in quality and customer service.
The Wall Street Journal explores whether Haidilao’s unique approach to dining, complete with manicures, massages, and entertainment, could be enough to sustain America’s appetite. As part of their series The Economics Of, WSJ delves into the business model of Haidilao, shedding light on how the company generates revenue and why it has been so successful in China.
As Haidilao sets its sights on the American market, it will be interesting to see whether its innovative approach to dining will be a hit with U.S. consumers. With its combination of delicious food and top-notch customer service, Haidilao may just have what it takes to become the next big thing in the American restaurant scene.

Would rather starve than support a Chinese company. 🤮
Service is absurdly good. Its a bit too much sometimes.
this is now a singapore chain
Give me a burger 🍔 and steak 🥩 any day. ,🇺🇲🇺🇲
This chain will be bankrupt in 10 years I guarantee. No business that relies on cheap gimmicks like this ever lasts. It's a fad, and like all fads will fade and then crash.
WSJ never forgets drop in a diss
Woody Allen and his daughter, I mean wife. Who thought that was a good look for the company. If Henry Cavill shows up take that picture and use it instead.
When the Chinese are the ones that produce superior quality and service by deliberately stiffling growth from franchises really says alot about American food companies…
Please use correct map of india
The level of waitering service at Haidilou is exemplary! All food industries should strive to emulate this excellence. just tell me who dislike their service?
It already works in London, around Piccadilly Circus
We have 1 in San Jose California service is ok.. The soup base very nice.. But very expensive comparing to other Hot pot I rather go to a all you can eat hot pot.. Much cheaper much easier to grab & eat..🤣☝👌
These are not restaurants these are ccp spies hiding in restaurant.
Not gonna work in the U.S. For one simple reason. Staffing… You can't make folks dance for minimal wage anymore. Lazy quitting 😉
I went to Haidilao for it's live chopper Biang Biang Moan performance 😊❤
Those service aren't available to everyone, and just to entice people to go into over charge hot pot that doesn't require them to hire real chef.
McDonald's in China: "Invest, grow, expand, open"💲😃
Chinese restaurant in the US: "Conquer"👹
This will not work here its part of asain culture
Now Haidilao is a Singaporean restaurant, rather than a Chinese restaurant anymore. because the boss of this restaurant had already migrated to Singapore years ago, and now he is a Singaporean.
CHYYYNA CHYYYNA CHYYYNA ~ 🍊
Isn’t Haidilao already in NY- Queens?
Americans may find the extra entertainment a bit cringe. They should thoroughly study the likeness of US consumers to realize those big goals. What works in Asia may not work in North America.
For me, this is a lot of noise.
I think Americans are tired of their jobs being sent to China and Chinese businesses opening up in America.
So chinese companies are allowed to sell in america like tiktok and this company but american companies like google facebook whatsapp youtube are not allowed in china. Seems very fair…
Went to haidilao in Beijing was amazing, they opened one in san diego, super overpriced and not good….
?? My wife went to California like 5 years ago and she told me she ate in Haidilao, was that a lie??
this is will allow them to hire americans. more jobs for americans. now its up to you to accept or not.
I enjoyed eating at the Haidilao in Shenzhen. Super cheap compared to the ones in the US too.
I love Haidilao! It should be in every country!
2 security cameras per table in the Vancouver location…no thanks.
Gutter oil. No thanks.
I love Haidilao but they are really way too expensive.
Almost all the perks like nails, nannies, dancing, is only in China
Indian entrepreneurs watching this to see if they can replicate it.
😬 Forget it, I honestly no longer trust anything involving China, especially food! Their lack of ethics and the routine use of substandard to poisonous ingredients as a way to cut costs are well-known and documented in Asia. It's a shame that all the love, trust, admiration, and good will that Hong Kong and Taiwan had built up in the West, especially in Cantonese food, entertainment, and culture, have been slowly eviscerated by mainland China/CCP. One can never really trust any business from China. To them, USDA standards for food quality and safety are merely suggestions rather than rule.
Good luck making it work without paying slave wages like you can in China…
