In a tragic incident on the Potomac River near Reagan Washington National Airport, an American Airlines regional passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided, resulting in a devastating crash into the frigid river. The recovery efforts were ongoing as emergency personnel worked tirelessly to remove the wreckage from the water.
Among the victims of the crash were three individuals on board the Black Hawk helicopter. The pilot, Captain Rebecca Lobach, was a 28-year-old former aide to Joe Biden who was undergoing her annual proficiency evaluation at the time of the collision. She had accumulated over 450 hours of flying experience. The instructor pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Eaves, 39, had more than 1,000 hours of flying time.
