Nuclear Waste and Contamination Reports from the Archives | 60 Minutes Full Episodes
In a compelling exploration of nuclear safety and environmental responsibility, “60 Minutes” revisits key reports that uncover the dark legacy of nuclear waste and the ongoing struggles to manage its ramifications. This video compilation spans over two decades, highlighting crucial stories that reveal both the dangers of nuclear contamination and the systemic failures surrounding its management.
Beginning with a poignant report from 2006, Lesley Stahl journeys to Hanford, Washington, a site infamous for its storage of hazardous waste generated during the Cold War’s nuclear arms race. Here, she delves into the complexities of remediation and the challenges of containing decades’ worth of toxic materials.
A retrospective from 1991 features Harry Reasoner, who examines troubling allegations that the federal government endangered civilian workers by downplaying health risks associated with nuclear facilities. This segment raises critical questions about accountability and worker safety in high-stakes industries.
In 1994, Stahl revisits the issue as she reports on the irony of corporate responsibility; the very companies that produced radioactive waste now hold lucrative contracts to clean it up. This theme of mismanagement recurs in a 2002 segment, where Stahl exposes the alarming reality of 90 million gallons of liquid nuclear waste, some of which is leaking, despite billions spent on containment efforts.
The controversy surrounding nuclear waste disposal comes to the forefront in a 2004 report by Steve Kroft, who investigates the U.S. government’s contentious plan to relocate vast amounts of radioactive materials to Yucca Mountain, a decision rife with public debate and concern.
Finally, the video includes powerful first-hand accounts from Bob Simon, who offers a haunting glimpse into the lingering effects of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and the continued fallout from the Fukushima incident, three years post-catastrophe in 2014.
This meticulous collection of reports not only serves as a historical record but also provokes critical conversations about our nuclear past and future. “60 Minutes” has consistently pushed the boundaries of investigative journalism, and this video is a testament to that enduring legacy. Tune in for an eye-opening journey through the archives that confronts the pressing issues of nuclear waste and contamination head-on.

Nice publication. Right as Los Alamos releases tritium into the air when they could have captured it. Perfect timing!
If after watching only half of this, anyone still trusts the government at all, s/he is in serious denial.
Stop paying taxes. Right now. This was a shakedown from the beginning. These people all need to be fired
He's lying every one of them are. They're collecting a paycheck for doing basically nothing. This is malfeasance.

The Gates Foundation was working on a way to use waste for energy
Yeah I don't think they had any clue in 1940s on how bad the production of nuclear weapons and nuclear material would be. It wasn't until the later fifties that they started to really realize how bad this truly was
pretty sure I watched these episodes when they originally came out. this and other reasons made me wonder why people had any trust/ belief in government

What's changed? Better(Worse) yet, how do things today compare to 20 years ago? Have we gained better control with near-zero negative impacts? (As I had hopes of, but realistically expected vast improvements at the least)..
Or, have the priorities shifted so much as to put the CONVENIENCE of the corporations far above holding the corporations responsible for their action? For those of us who are familiar, this is Often referred to as too "burdensome on the businesses" to ask that there be ANY accountability.
While progress was painfully slow, more obviously corrupt, improvements were implemented over time. Always an uphill battle, every change was a victory.
Until the rugs was pulled out, muck was dumped in its place and we're currently told to drink it despite what our own sense tell us – we are told to beileve them when they say it's safe.
As long as the appropriate tests are never conducted, there is nothing negative to report. No harm done. Simple as that.
At least back then the potential threat didn't have a mind of its own, higher intelligence and handed control to manipulate everything in our modern lives from electronics, finances, appliances transportation to our very emotions! WITH A GREEN LIGHT OF ZERO OVERSIGHT NO REGULATIONS FOR THE NEXT 15 f***ING YEARS!
No one went to prison not any Congress menber nor senator nor CEO that ran the companys waste and u want to make more bombs wtf the war mongering mist stop all the cancer around the world is because of the making of the bombs dam u could pay to watch the blast in las Vegas and get down wind radiation thousand died and wiped out Indian tribes all for CEO payment to scam us

60 Minutes is doing GOD’S WORK. Period. ☮️💟✝️
When a news team repeatedly changes (edits) stories to meet the narrative they wish to support, how do you then take anything they report as honest and unbiased?
Sounds like something out of Russia
DOE = criminals.
Workers are contract employees so no veterans benefits apply.
nuclear power is the most clean energy in world
Jerimiah51 disagrees with you. This will leave usa without an inhabitant just before resurrection and ascension thats daniel 11:40&45&12:1-5. Jerimiah51 fill nation with ppl like caterpillars followed by ppl who invade lifting up a shout against it aka no kings march anti ice protest etc followed by horse and rider invasion by countries called Media Persia and Proxies aka iran and proxies, Aschenaz aka Russia, Arrarat aka Africa, Minnie aka Kings of the East aka China North korea etc and the nation aka Brazil etc collectively known as BRICS. This horse and rider killing is called killing 1/3 population of earth by fire brimstone and smoke and this is called 2nd woe of revelation and so is the killing of the 2 witnesses by beast from the bottomless pit 31/2 days before resurrection and ascension making them same event especially since that same beast from the bottomless pit kills or destroys the woman with a cup labeled babylon which is what jerimiah51 calls the nation being invaded and a shout by invaders are being lifted up and threatened by brics, babylon the cup, the he babylon because it produced the man of sin identified in daniel 8 :23-26 as Trump which that text says destroys the mighty and holy ppl. Get out of her is jerimiah51 suggestion. Good luck

Wow the comments are on😊
Heads Up;
Watch 3 The $12 Billion Clean Up (1994), then 4, A Poisonous Stew (2002) before you watch 1, Lethal And Leaking (2006) as they are all about the same facility and the same problems.
The DOE talking heads are making the same excuses and the experts are making the same complaints 12 years later.
The Yucca Mountain faciity in 5 was finally mothballed in 2011. No waste is in there. Complete waste of money.
