Blockade on Venezuela: US Intercepts Third Oil Tanker Off Coast
In a significant escalation of tensions in the Caribbean, the United States has intercepted a third oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, according to reports from Reuters. This incident follows a recent U.S. Coast Guard operation that led to the seizure of a vessel suspected of transporting oil that falls under U.S. sanctions. The U.S. has intensified its military presence in the region, citing the need to combat drug trafficking and enforce economic sanctions against the Venezuelan regime.
The Venezuelan government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, has condemned these actions as breaches of international law. Officials in Caracas have announced their intention to file a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council, emphasizing that the seizures undermine Venezuela’s sovereignty and violate international maritime regulations.
Mary Ellen O’Connell, a professor of international law at the University of Notre Dame, weighed in on the legality of the U.S. operations. In the video, she argues that the seizure of these tankers is not supported by international law and raises serious questions about the U.S.’s authority to enforce its sanctions extraterritorially.
The ongoing blockade and interception of vessels have sparked outrage within Venezuela and among its allies, who see these actions as part of a broader U.S. strategy to destabilize the Maduro government. DW correspondent Oscar Schlenker discusses the response from Venezuela, noting that the Maduro administration is likely to ramp up its rhetoric against U.S. interference in the region and rally support from its allies.
This latest confrontation is emblematic of the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in Latin America, as the U.S. and Venezuela remain locked in a contentious struggle over energy resources, governance, and national sovereignty. As the situation unfolds, the international community will be watching closely to see how it impacts regional stability and U.S.-Venezuela relations.

Well oil is a drug and most of us are addicted to it.
Also – Maduro is a dictator who is known to have stolen the last election. I would think that these guys would be best buddies.
Ooohh no! They are going to file a complaint with UN Security Council. Oh nOoO! 🤣 The United States IS the UN Security Council.
yoink!
Thank you Mr President Trump for not asking permission from the international 🪱 community for permission to protect your borders from cartels and internationalist 💪🏽😃
Venezuela is a dictatorship and the dictator is involved in all kinds of illegit actions. Calling the actions of the US "piracy" just shows that the syndicates never even read international law. Piracy is always and by definition an act committed by a non-state actor. The US is still a state and seems to have decided to enforce the sanctions against the Maduro regime, that so far could break them routinely and at will. The crews get send home and the fate of the vessel will be decided by a federal judge.
Intercept or stolen ?
Please correct it

Take all you want and be satisfied "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves"
Even if US successfully did a "regime change" in Venezuela, will democracy come to it!?….Did democracy succeed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libia etc after US regime change….Maduro is just a guy at the top…after him the cartels and gangs or some military General will take over..
Finally, sanctioned oil / ships for such shadow fleet are not just meaningless words without real consequences or enforcement.
Thank you for the free oil Maduro. 🇺🇸
Money laundering via apparently above board trade activities
The Coast guard works with the Navy all of the time. The Navy has more ships, aircraft and personnel. The helicopters were navy, with miniguns pointed at the bridge and bow. The tactical team was Coast Guard. Remember the CG is a branch of the military, under DHS not DOW/DOD. They are federal law enforcement officers under (14USC89) and do not fall under the posse comitatus act like the other branches of the military. They enforce U.S. law. Team was The Coast Guard MSRT (Maritime Security Response Team) it's an elite, globally deployable counterterrorism unit, specializing in high-risk maritime interdictions, direct action, close-quarters combat (CQC), precision marksmanship, and CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive) threats. When a judge issues a U.S. seizure warrant, who else would they send? One other aspect of this whole seizure, is that these tankers are headed to the U.S. under its power and needs a team well versed it all aspects of maritime law, engineering, chemicals and navigation. God bless America!
Tankers full of narco CBD oil!!!!1
Maduro didn't win the election so he is the one who committed the terrible crime of regime change by not leaving power and not allowing the real President to take charge of the country.
Left wing dribble. Mis-flagged ships hiding where their cargo is going.
Drug trafficking is funded by drug trafficking.
Why ? are Americans now addicted to snorting Crude Oil ?
