In response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Canadian goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will retaliate with 25% tariffs on billions of dollars worth of US goods. This move comes after Trump signed an order to levy 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, as well as 10% levies on imports from China.
The escalating trade tensions between the US and its biggest trading partners have raised concerns about the impact on the global economy. To shed light on the situation, DW News spoke with Toronto-based political commentator, Sean Mallen, who discussed the potential for negotiation before the tariffs go into effect on Tuesday.
The implementation of these tariffs has the potential to disrupt the flow of goods and increase prices for consumers on both sides of the border. As the trade war continues to escalate, many are watching closely to see how the situation will unfold and what impact it will have on the economies of the countries involved.

They are Cartel. Americans is seeing them for what they really are.
They are playing tarrif-tarrif game between themselves.😂
MAGA America. Buckle up. You're welcome to the Pain.💥🔥👑👹💩⚡😝
Why is Canada in NATO?
You don't spend decades fighting in Afghanistan, in Libya, contribute troops to Iraq and African counter terrorism, then tolerate this abuse from a NATO partner.
Then you should have worked with Trump on the illegals crossing your border into the USA ! USA, USA, USA !!!!!!!!!!
No solution, No way out provided. Canada has no option
Buy American and boycott Mexican and Canadian maple goods.
As an American I believe ALL Canadians should boycott US products and spending in the USA. This is not how the USA should treat its allies and friends. Now Canada will never trust the US and things will escalate. To all those commenters that say the USA has the upper hand and will win this battle, yeah maybe so but that's not how you treat allies and in the end the common man on both sides of the border will suffer. Tariffs are a US consumer tax. The country getting tariffed doesn't pay the 25% lol
Its Tarrif tiiime😂😂😂
Never met a real mexican named sheinbaum and I grew up in LA
Canada & Mexico can trade with Russia, what's the problem.
Bring it on
Double and expand Canadian tariffs until we have no more trade deficit with Canada or no more trade. It is better to end trade with any country than to continue with massive deficits and unfair trade.
All the justine supporters are out in force😂
Not "Mr" Trump, President Trump. We are not getting screwed by other counties that have put down the US for years. it's over. Get used to it.
3:15 As with the auto industry, cattle cross the border three or four times before being consumes. Adding a tariff to beef each time it crosses the border would be insane.
Canada should stop selling oil and electricity to the US.
Control your border
In the 9 years of Trudeau's government, borders have deteriorated, fentanyl consumption has increased exponentially, including the public supply of these drugs. The pipeline that would transport production to ports in the Atlantic and Pacific were embargoed, and oil production was demonized by woke ideology. Today, we would be supplying liquid gas to Germany, but instead, Canadian citizens were taxed for "polluting" with the carbon tax. Billions of public funds went to finance a war on another continent while our armed forces are scrapped. What is interesting is now seeing the most incompetent prime minister this country has ever had wanting to fight on equal terms with the world's greatest power, the destination of 80% of its exports. This Trudeau government was and continues to be a complete disaster.
Canada is very dependent on America's doing business.
Funny how much these countries want to continue the trafficing of lethal drugs into the us…
Always welcome to trade with the UK and the rest of the commonwealth
Trump would soon lift sanctions on Russia. Let's see which way the other western countries sway. Trump is no fool, he always has a back up plan. I agree what Trump is doing maybe retribution for all the insults thrown at him when he lost power. But this isnt gonna end well for Canada. Mexico is fighting hard because drug peddling is a big part of their economy, but it'll be worse for them if America decided to use force. Ny counsel is that they should just play soft for these 4 years because a fight with the US would never end well for these two countries. Their both economies isn't up to the size of California alone…
Good luck Canada 😂
500% tariff for Tesla please
Pull more than 20,000 troops out of Europe.
Trump’s response will likely be “you want to retaliate by adding a 25% tariff? Ok, now we’re raising the tariff to 50%. How do you like them apples?”
But our country USA has alot of land. And enough raw resources. Unless every city going to look like New York, we are good
Good job Canada 🇨🇦 we are with you
Why not just do what he asked? He asked you to partner with him by eliminating the issues at the border. Sooooo do that, just as Alberta did.
The orange cult members aren't the brightest bunch and they won't know the difference if their eggs go up or down.
As a Canadian I have never been more proud. We'll stand together against this bully.
I'm mexican, and I will buy canadian and mexican products.
