An eight-year-old child in Gaza has become another victim of the ongoing conflict with Israel, losing his leg in an Israeli strike. This tragic incident is just one of many in which Palestinian children have had to endure the loss of their limbs. According to UN agencies, as many as 10 children a day were losing their limbs during the initial months of the conflict. To date, nearly 16,000 children have lost their lives.
Al Jazeera’s Moath Al-Kahlout sat down with the young amputee in northern Gaza to hear his heartbreaking story. The impact of the violence in Gaza is devastating, particularly for children who are innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. The loss of a limb is a life-altering event for anyone, but especially for a child who is just beginning their journey in life.
The international community must take action to protect the rights and well-being of these vulnerable children in conflict zones. The suffering and tragedy faced by Palestinian children in Gaza is a stark reminder of the urgent need for peace and justice in the region.
