A Magical Realm of Innovation: Inside Epic Systems’ Enchanting Headquarters
In the heart of Wisconsin, Epic Systems has transformed the corporate landscape, creating a headquarters that feels more like a fantasy realm than a technology campus. As the leading provider of electronic medical records in the United States, Epic’s innovative approach to workplace design parallels its pioneering spirit in the healthcare technology sector.
Upon arriving at Epic’s sprawling five-campus complex, one is immediately struck by its whimsical architecture—a fusion of imagination and functionality that brings beloved literary worlds to life. Inspired by classics like Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland, Epic’s headquarters exudes a sense of wonder that invites employees and visitors alike to explore.
The campus features vibrant treehouses reminiscent of childhood adventures, intricate pathways akin to the yellow brick road, and whimsical garden areas where air-tagged sheep wander—an amusing nod to the company’s eccentric charm and a practical solution for managing an expansive outdoor space. These elements are not merely aesthetic; they serve a strategic purpose in fostering creativity, collaboration, and a sense of community among employees.
As the WSJ team navigates through the outdoor spaces, the unique architectural choices are revealed to play a pivotal role in the company’s recruitment efforts. By creating an environment that stimulates the imagination, Epic Systems has positioned itself as a top choice for talent seeking more than just a traditional workspace. With amenities designed for creativity and collaboration, the campus becomes a tool for attracting the brightest minds in technology and healthcare.
Inside the offices, the enchantment continues. Open spaces abound, designed to facilitate innovation and teamwork while still providing cozy nooks for focused work. This thoughtful design reflects a deep understanding of the modern workforce, emphasizing the importance of nurturing both collaborative endeavors and individual productivity.
Throughout the tour, company executives and architects share insights into the philosophy guiding Epic’s design choices, revealing how the fusion of playfulness and professionalism creates an environment where creativity can flourish. This unique approach not only enhances employee satisfaction but also aligns with the company’s core mission of improving healthcare through technology.
In a world where many tech companies lean towards sterility and uniformity, Epic Systems’ headquarters stands as a beacon of how creativity and culture can reinvigorate the workplace. This corporate “Disneyland” challenges conventional office aesthetics and inspires a new narrative in the tech industry, solidifying Epic’s reputation as a visionary leader not only in electronic medical records but in crafting captivating workplaces that foster innovation.
As the WSJ Open Office series delves into this remarkable space, it highlights how Epic Systems’ headquarters serves as a testament to the power of imaginative design in the corporate realm, where the magic of storytelling convenes with the realities of business—creating a truly enchanting workplace experience.

This is incredible! I wish more office campuses were like this
0:19 "Why? Really, the question is why not?"
Ngl I love that question, I wish many companies would do this.
Weird, this place would make me uncomfortable.
Been there 3 times for work (IT RN now), but i am still not sure how i feel about the place. As a self-proclaimed geek, I can appreciate the fantasy like decor. But after 35 years as a nurse, I can’t help but look past the whimsy and wonder how much of that spectacle is paid for, in the end, by patients and a strained healthcare system.
Mostly approve. Huge improvement from Biden tho
I’ve always loved the idea of a company coming out as a cult and I guess this is like a glamorous version of that 🤩
I LOVE ❤ this!!! 😂more of these offices please!
I worked for the contractor who built this, this company spared no expense but not if it’s worth it.
Lol, it's just an elaborate trick to keep their employees at work to work longer. They're just copying what big tech did years ago.
This is absolutely disgusting. Charging hospitals way to much for software then spending the money on a Disney land playing on slides while a large number of people struggle to pay for health care.. this is the problem. They are a perfect example!
They should put same amount of care into their applications.
I thought it was gunna be Palantir
I wonder if all the designs are free of copyright since it’s from such an old film.
