Don Omar Says He’s ‘Cancer-Free’ a Day After Revealing His Diagnosis

After revealing that he was battling cancer via an Instagram post on Monday (June 17), Don Omar announced a day later that he is now “cancer-free.”

“Today I woke up cancer-free and grateful,” he captioned a selfie of himself on Instagram on Tuesday (June 18). “Thank you for your good wishes, prayers and thousands of messages. My operation was a success and now I have to recover.”

The positive news comes just hours after the Puerto Rican artist alarmed his nearly 12 million followers on Instagram with the announcement that he was battling the disease. “Today yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer,” he wrote alongside a photo of his hospital wristband from an Orlando-based medical center, though he did not share what type of cancer he had. “Good intentions are well received. See you soon. #f–kcancer.”

Billboard has reached out to his team for further comment.

Prior to sharing his diagnosis on social media, the artist born William Omar Landrón Rivera posted a video of a group of dancers auditioning for the second leg of his Back to Reggatón Tour, set to kick off Aug. 7 in Oakland, Calif., and make pit stops in cities including San Diego; Portland, Ore.; Tampa, Fla.; and Ontario, Calif., before wrapping at the UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., on Sept. 15.

Don’s CMN-produced tour — which initially had 20 dates that ran from March 7 to April 21, wrapping at the Kaseya Center in Miami — marks his first major headlining trek in a decade and his first since the Kingdom Tour with Daddy Yankee in 2015.
