US President Donald Trump is set to travel to Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, which is expected to be attended by 50 heads of government and ten monarchs. The funeral will take place at St Peter’s, with Francis’s coffin then being driven through Rome and buried at St Mary Major basilica.
The Vatican has not yet released the seating plan for the funeral, but it is expected that Catholic royals will sit in the front row, non-Catholic royals in the second row, and government heads, including President Trump and Sir Keir Starmer, in the third row. Leaders will be seated in alphabetical order according to the name of their country in French, the traditional language of diplomacy.
The funeral is expected to be a somber and respectful event, with dignitaries from around the world coming to pay their respects to Pope Francis. Stay tuned for live coverage of this historic event.
