Expert attributes oil tanker crash to incompetence

An expert has stated that the recent oil tanker crash in the North Sea, which left the U.S.-flagged Stena Immaculate tanker ablaze and leaking, was caused by “incompetence.” The collision occurred when the tanker, on a short-term charter to the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command, was struck by the Portuguese-flagged container ship Solong while anchored off northeast England.

With over 30 crew members sent to the hospital as a result of the accident, it is evident that the repercussions of this collision have been severe. The Stena Immaculate, part of a U.S. government program to supply the armed forces with fuel when needed, was left in a perilous state following the crash.

According to oceanographer Dr. Simon Boxall, the blame for the collision lies with the crew of the Solong. Describing the incident as a result of incompetence, Dr. Boxall emphasized that such accidents should not occur in the modern era where advanced technology and navigational aids are available to prevent collisions at sea.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper training and adherence to maritime regulations in order to prevent further accidents at sea. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, but it is clear that measures must be put in place to ensure the safety of vessels navigating the waters of the North Sea and beyond.
