Hội Quán Quảng Triệu is the Cantonese communal hall district 1. Another Communal Hall "Hội Quán Quần Tân" in Go Vap district next to Go Vap Market , from Hakka people. These are 2 Chinese communal halls built catered to Chinese communities lived outside Cholon. On the other side of district 1 is the Chinese "Jade Emperor Temple" (Chùa Ngọc Hoàng) President Obama visited this couple years ago. A lot of things destroyed during and after the war, fortunately these communal halls had ornate architectures and patron saints easily converted to temples so they able to survived until today.
Vo Van Kiet street in 2002 looked exactly like Hoi An in district 1 and 5, there was 2-4 lane street along the river, wealthy Chinese built 2-3 storeys shophouses with ornate French architectures on the side, I was so shocked to see such a long and beautiful area in Saigon, unfortunately the 2004 I came back they demolished slowly the entire 1-block along the river to make way for the 10-12 lanes street you see today. This highway was built by Japanese, had it built by French or some European countries this long stretch of Saigon history and architectures would be preserved. Awesome walk, thank you!
would be so much better if they switch to electric bikes
Hey AK , good to hear and see you back wherever you are, is there still influence of the French, and when did they transition take place over bicycles , as my bartender used to say , tell your story walking ,
