Forbidden love in Indonesia | DW Documentary
In Indonesia, couples typically belong to the same ethnic group and religion. Yet this traditional mindset is slowly changing.
Pingkan Manbgoval grew up in a traditional Christian family. When she told them she wanted to marry her childhood friend Taufan, her family was horrified. And so was her boyfriend’s family. After all, Taufan and his family are Muslim, and interfaith marriages are frowned upon in Indonesia. But Pingkan and Taufan were undeterred. After long discussions with all their relatives, the couple finally got married. Kedung and Ino are another couple that had to overcome a lot of resistance before they could tie the knot. That is because homosexual relationships remain a taboo in Indonesia, even though they are not prohibited by law. Stela and Moses, meanwhile, are an interethnic couple. They, too, faced challenges because such relationships are also a sensitive topic. Sharon Magriet Sumolang’s report looks at their lives and shows how they nevertheless found happiness.

I don’t see why Muslims and Christians can’t get married. They believe in the same god.
These people are responsible for all the immorality that’s destroying the world!!
Live love leave religion apart
Live love leave religion apart
An Iraqi friend of mine's father is a communist … his mother is a practising Shia Muslim. The extreme difference in their beliefs (she knows all about her husband's opinions about Mohammed, etc.) hasn't impacted her love for him. I also have a Muslim friend who, when I asked her what she thought about Islamic terrorists said: "Muslims who are hostile towards other religions are mentally ill". She knows I'm an atheist but that doesn't bother her. She likes me as a person.
DW should not into the political affairs of a independent nation, without having in-depth knowledge of the history, demographics and geology.
Sorry to say, how can a media broadcaster belonging to a country having foreign soldiers feet on its ground (Soil). Not truly independent nation itself.
As a Malaysian, I think Indonesians rock! ..'cept for some of them in Acheh province 😅
Brave people
let people love. because that is most important.
Love jihad chal rha h bhai 😂😂
Simps at its finest they are gonna be used up.
When they find out it is too late if they find out..female hupergamy.😂😂😂
It's just a matter of choice. If you stick to your beliefs, the so-called "forbidden love" won't cross your mind. Even if so, you'll try your best to stay on track.
If you can find a thousand of excuses to justify your diversion from the track, then probably your belief is not really your priority.
Nice 😊 at least mother is sitting on the sofa. Maybe Congs mother to. Greatings all be blessed. 🙏🤲
Mind-boggling how stupid and small-minded people are.
Religion sows division.
Indonesians of all religion, ethnic, and sexuality together as one
Lol, this personally hurts cause this is exactly my situation 😂
Love speaks louder💔
Full of bullshit
Women. 😂😅😂😅
I wonder if Indonesia has a large , religion of peace within it's country that is causing all these problems like it does everywhere else.
A Muslim marrying a none Muslim is null and void in the faith of Islam.
The same applies to same sex marriage
I used to live in Indonesia on Java. The Christians are not permitted the same freedoms of worship as the Muslims.
I pray that one day we can all respect each other.
Love is my religion!
