Former French businessman, Dominique Pelicot, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of orchestrating a horrific mass rape of his ex-wife, Gisèle Pelicot. The trial, which has shocked many in France, revealed that Pelicot drugged his ex-wife and then recruited strangers to rape her.
According to court documents, Pelicot lured Gisèle to a hotel under false pretenses, where she was given a drink laced with a powerful sedative. Once she was unconscious, Pelicot reportedly allowed several men to take turns raping her while he filmed the assault.
During the trial, Gisèle bravely testified about the trauma she experienced, recounting the horrific details of the assault. She described feeling helpless and violated, unable to defend herself against the multiple attackers.
The verdict in this case has sent shockwaves through the country, with many calling for stricter laws to protect victims of sexual violence. Gisèle’s harrowing experience serves as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing support for survivors of such heinous crimes.
As Dominique Pelicot begins his 20-year sentence, Gisèle and other survivors of sexual violence are hoping for justice and closure after enduring such a traumatic ordeal. The trial may be over, but the impact of Pelicot’s actions will no doubt continue to resonate for years to come.

Lost all respect for this victim when she started screaming about rape culture, the patriarchy and how basically every man is also guilty of rape, because they're men.
TWENTY YEARS??? Wow. I guess they weren't interested in actually making a statement.
Just 20? 😟
I would say that 'Coveting' is probably the worst and most pathetic and filthy of all the sins.
It's unbelievable that the BBC News presenter has apologised for having no interpreter on hand to translate the live statement from one of the lawyer's!
pity the grooming gangs didnt get 20 years
Shero
He was jailed what about the rest of them? This would absolutely destroy a person for life.
Only three years for raping a consiousless woman???
The judges must be men obviously.
🫢🫢 that was disgusting what happened did it really disgusting for the man who did that to her they can find their wife shame on them I don't know how to work and lay down with them that is so disgusting
Those men who raped that lady is disgusting I don't know how the women could take these men
What's wrong with this reporter? She didn't have a good night sleep? Why she can't complete a sentence without pausing after every single F-ing word!
Shame on the French legal system for not taking rape and sexual abuse seriously. This is not what a civilised country does!
Where's the headlines for the
Mass rape of English girls by Muslim men?????
she was never raped, she was involved in having sex with all those men and she loved it only when her husband divorced her she then wanted to say she was raped, its like a porn star doing porn for 20 years then says she's was raped its all fake news lies on top of that that's his own wife. so now women who are married can now can say after the divorce she's was raped and every body beleive her its getting ridiculers.
The woman didn't do nothing wrong and she should keep her head up the men should be shame of their self this is being bad because they can't even function with a real woman that had to put her to sleep to have sex there should be a shame in their self that she got 10 years
Can this reporter just speak normally instead of this stuttering. Brave Gisèle, sending her love 💕
Hm I do not agree with Jamey. I am afraid the prosecution of rape will only get harder: here there was a plethara of evidence, in the future women who are raped will have to come up with the same kind of evidence. When they do not have that: It will still be 'his word against hers'
Dear Madame Gisèle: you are a heroine and an example to so many of us. I wish you only the best. Bravo madame!
I am not commenting on the length of the sentence(s) as I think that European Justice has a more integrative nature than a punitive one. What is good is that the horrors were made public and everybody can now try to understand how so many men have been getting away with such horrible abuse for so long, thinking it was normal. May the shame switch sides!!
This journalist's voice is a breath of fresh air.
Surely it should be life?? Crazy!
It’s disgusting that the men who were given short sentences … they should have been given at least 15 – 20 years each and the ex husband should have been locked up for at least 40 years … these men shouldn’t be called “ men” they are cowards and inhuman…shame on the court and all courts in any country who will not stand up for women.
The BBC never talks about the mass rapes of Palestinians hostages in 🇮🇱 jails 🤐🤐🤐
Stupid men….now behind Bars and shamed for what? Only for having their pleasure. 😂
Only 20 yrs😱 a joke
Imagine the CS if the rapists were muslims
Joke sentence..should of been 60 years
12 years? That’s it?
Usual suspects finally got caught
Miss Gisele Pelicot you are one strong woman.
This is just one case, how many more sick people are there…
Really running with this one aye. Imagine if they have a tenth of the coverage to the grooming gangs. I wonder what the difference is that tbey concentrate on one not the other?
Ridiculous sentences. Makes a mockery of the bravery this woman has shown. This isn’t real justice
Are the 50 men going to be manned and shamed?
The sentences should be doubled to 40 years each not 20 years.
When have grape victims ever been seen under a cloud of shame? It isn't 1910
From hair of ure wifes ,,english n french will be dragged 2 meet doom ,,
Dont be confident ,and be fearful
If u wontt tell them what happens 2 them same happens 2 u 2
It's funny that she's a feminist icon now, as the feminists don't want to know about the grooming gang victims, and when they appear on tv, they receive a nasty visit from the police.
U RE NOT PITING CAP ON BRITISH WEAKNESS ,,,,BY BUDGING 2 INDIA N PRETENDIN 2 HAV COMMON CAUSE WITH TURKISH ARMY ,,,,
U GO ASK FOR HELP FROM CHINESE N RUSSIANS ,,,URE RIVALS
Obviously a lot of men think rape is not a crime.
this is beyond me, someone who copied this man's horrific behaviour, 12 yrs?? The 20 I can get, it is probably the maximum they can give, eventhough it should be life 'is life'. But 12 years? Someone that is capable of this kind of monstrous behaviour is a danger to women and society, he will not be a better man in 12 years
Absolutely, shame should not be placed on the victims of abuse, it really is about time these awful attitudes change.
For those saying 20 years is not enough, its double what he'd have got in the UK for sure…
STOP THE BOATS !!!!!!!
Although, at his age, this is probably a life sentence, I do not understand why it is not an actual life sentence. France has life sentences, issuing approximately 25 annually. They are, obviously, for serious offences, including torture. Surely, this offence counts as torture?
Giving the monster Pelicot a life sentence would have sent a strong message.
It has been said that France has a limit of 20 years, but that applies only to someone who was under the age of 16 when they committed the offence.
Not a survivor…if so, I am too…I survived eating my coco-pops without choking. COCO-POPS !
