The Homewrecker Hot Dog: A Southern Classic
At Hillbilly Hotdogs, the Homewrecker isn’t just about length; it’s a hot dog that embodies the whimsical nature of American comfort food. Generously sized and packed with flavor, this ‘dog’ is served with an array of toppings that cater to every craving. From the moment you lay eyes on it, you know this is not just any ordinary meal—it’s a fiesta on a bun!
What Makes the Homewrecker Hot Dog Special?
-
The Dog: Starting with a massive, expertly grilled hot dog, Hillbilly Hotdogs ensures that every bite is juicy and bursting with flavor. The 15-inch length makes it a visual spectacle that draws in crowds and challenges hungry enthusiasts.
-
Toppings Galore: The Homewrecker is dressed to impress with a variety of toppings! You can expect everything from the classic mustard and ketchup to the more adventurous chili, cheese, jalapeños, onions, and even coleslaw. The combination of flavors makes every bite a new experience.
-
The Experience: Eating the Homewrecker isn’t just about food; it’s about the experience. Whether you’re at the restaurant in West Virginia or trying your hand at this recipe at home, it’s all about gathering friends and family to cheer you on as you take on this meaty mountain.
How to Recreate the Homewrecker Hot Dog at Home
While nothing compares to the original, you can create your version of the Homewrecker and challenge your friends. Here’s how to replicate this tasty giant:
Ingredients:
- 15-inch hot dog (or two large hot dogs)
- 1 large hot dog bun or specialty bun
- Mustard
- Ketchup
- Chili (canned or homemade)
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Diced onions
- Jalapeños (pickled or fresh)
- Coleslaw
Instructions:
-
Preparation: Begin by preheating your grill or stovetop pan to medium-high heat.
-
Grill the Hot Dog: Carefully place the 15-inch hot dog on the grill, cooking it for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally until it’s nicely charred and heated through.
-
Prepare the Bun: While the hot dog cooks, slightly toast the bun on the grill until lightly golden. This will help it hold up against the toppings without falling apart.
-
Assemble: Once the hot dog is ready, place it gently into the bun. Now comes the fun part—layer on your chosen toppings! Start with a good drizzle of mustard and ketchup, followed by a generous scoop of chili. Top it off with shredded cheese, diced onions, sliced jalapeños, and a hearty portion of coleslaw for that added crunch.
-
Dig In: Serve your Homewrecker hot dog on a large plate, perhaps with a side of fries or potato salad, and prepare yourself for the ultimate feast.
Final Thoughts
The Homewrecker Hot Dog is a delicious reminder of the fun and creativity that can be found in comfort food. It celebrates the spirit of diners and drive-ins while inviting you to indulge in the joy of food and friends. So gather your crew, fire up the grill, and see if you have what it takes to conquer this culinary giant, just like Guy Fieri!

A lot of impressive Hot Dogs. I definitely like spicy like the habanero and hot cherry peppers, spicy mustard and Kimchi. The only thing that I absolutely Never put on a Hot Dog is Ketchup!!!
