How child rescue in the Philippines ends in abuse | DW Documentary
Rescue groups are going undercover to save children from trafficking. But a DW investigation finds some are putting children at risk. Several girls in the Philippines say they were abused by men sent to save them.
‘Alina’ (not her real name) was 13 when she was pulled into child prostitution through poverty. In July 2021, she was targeted in an undercover mission that was meant to remove her from sexual exploitation. But during the operation, Alina says she was abused.
DW talked to witnesses and survivors and sifted through court records and confidential documents to corroborate her testimony. We found that instead of stopping exploitation, the rescue mission created the conditions for child abuse to occur.
The operation was run by Destiny Rescue, an Australian-founded anti-trafficking charity. In this video, Geoff Harrison from Destiny Rescue admits “something went wrong” in Alina’s rescue mission.
But Destiny Rescue rejects responsibility for the actions of men who acted as informants in its operation, and who are accused of abusing girls. It says a prosecutor cleared its managers of criminal charges. The alleged abusers remain unidentified.

I have worked and traveled all around the world unfortunately I have seen not only sexual abuse but slavery and abuse of children and older people what I found was that the abuse is in every country even the so called first world countries. The abuse is powered by money and the wealthy as well as corporations how many times has abuse been exposed. One day I posted that the only way to reduce slavery it to have oversight of companies supplying goods to wealthy countries and ensuring that children are educated and fed and the adults working in the slave shops are payed at a level that will raise up the living standards of the workers. I received a reply saying that I was living in fantasy land and that they would not pay $50 dollars for a mop. I answered that the minimum wage was $7.25 a hour in America and do want to support slavery or human rights of course I received no answer and I personally believe that selfishness, ignorance, greed will win and nothing will change
I played on the street at three. Then a neighbour took me to his basement.
