Increase in air raids by Russian forces in Syria in an attempt to impede opposition’s progress

Syrian and Russian forces have escalated air attacks in Idlib city and positions in Aleppo as they attempt to slow the advance of opposition fighters, according to a recent video report. The government of President Bashar al-Assad is facing a significant challenge as the opposition has made substantial gains in recent days, significantly altering the front line in Syria’s protracted conflict.

Led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a coalition of Syrian opposition groups has made significant progress in pushing back against government forces. However, their advance has somewhat slowed in the past 24 hours as Syrian and Russian jets have intensified their bombardment of key areas.

The situation in Syria remains volatile, with civilians caught in the crossfire and facing a dire humanitarian crisis. Ismail Alabdallah, a volunteer with the White Helmets, a Syrian-led civil defence and emergency response group, provided insights into the latest developments from northern Aleppo.

The conflict in Syria shows no signs of abating, with both government and opposition forces determined to gain the upper hand. The involvement of Russian forces adds another layer of complexity to the already complex situation in the country.

As the fighting continues, it is imperative that efforts are made to protect civilians and provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the conflict. The international community must work towards finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Syria in order to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and bring stability to the region.
