As some Canadians consider delaying having children, the conversation around reforming parental leave policies is gaining traction. According to a recent study, about half of Canadians under 50 express intentions of becoming parents in the future. However, of those potential parents, approximately 50 per cent are deciding to postpone starting a family due to various reasons such as financial concerns, career aspirations, and the high cost of childcare.
With the shifting demographics and changing societal norms, there is a growing need for a re-evaluation of parental leave policies in Canada. Currently, the country offers up to 18 months of parental leave, but many argue that this may not be sufficient to support new parents in balancing work and family responsibilities. There is a call for more flexible and inclusive policies that cater to the diverse needs of modern families.
Some advocates propose implementing a use-it-or-lose-it parental leave policy for both parents to encourage shared caregiving responsibilities and promote gender equality in the workforce. By offering equal and non-transferable leave benefits to both parents, it can help address the existing gender imbalance in caregiving roles and create a more equitable environment for working parents.
As the landscape of parenthood continues to evolve, it is essential for policymakers and employers to adapt to meet the needs of the changing workforce. By reforming parental leave policies, Canada can ensure that all families have the support and resources they need to thrive both at home and in the workplace. It is time to have a serious conversation about how we can better support Canadian families in their journey towards parenthood.

Too little, too late.
Admitting millions of people all at once in the country destroying the working class by keeping wages low not to mention making it impossible for most people to buy a home doesn't help!
😂🤣 Trudeau, his caucus & the PMO lame stream media GoebbelsNews are the ones who caused this through their lack if transparency & dereliction of duty.
1960: house = 2X average gross income
2020: house = 20X average gross income
Their will be a great famine in 2038, no more pesticides. At least one billion people are going to die before the end of this century. Having kids right now is insane.
It's TIME to pay people a decent wage so they can actually afford to have kids.
I thank you.
30 years ago Canada was a place where you could get good pay, cheap housing, and live in a safe neighborhood. It's the complete opposite of that now, so is it really surprising no one is having children? We'll see what happens after Trudeau gets kicked out of office, but I think Canada may be irreparably damaged now.
Who can afford a child when people can't even afford food?!
Make contraceptives free and that solves the problem
