Our journey begins in the cockpit with a three-man crew who navigate the 43-year-old trijet with precision and skill. The takeoff from Bogota is a heart-pounding experience as we use nearly the entire runway before soaring into the sky. An unusual vibrating noise during gear retraction raises some concerns, but the captain reassures us that all is well.
One of the unique features of the Boeing 727 is the presence of a flight engineer, who plays a crucial role in monitoring and controlling the aircraft’s systems. We get a glimpse into the work of F/E Guillermo as he explains his duties onboard.
After a smooth 1.5-hour flight, we touch down in Caracas, Venezuela, where the cargo is quickly unloaded before we embark on our return journey. This time, the young First Officer, with only two months of 727 flying experience, takes the reins and expertly guides us back to Colombia.
