This documentary explores the lives of incarcerated individuals in Washington State, focusing on Kimonti Carter, who was sentenced to life without parole at just 18 years old. Through heartfelt testimonies, archival footage, and community-driven educational programs, the film sheds light on the deep impact of systemic inequality and the long-term consequences of tough-on-crime policies.
The film tells the dramatic story of how one American community, affected by harsh laws of the 1990s, saw its youth—particularly Black and Brown children—steered into gangs, risky environments, and ultimately, long-term incarceration. In the name of public safety, an entire generation was cast aside.
This is not just a story about prison—it’s a story of resilience, transformation, and hope, told by those who live it..

To be honest. Them gang banging movies and tv shows glorifying Crips and Bloods didn't do any good neither in the late 80's and entire 90's. Washington state crips???? Oh yeah either some cats moved up to WA from SoCal. Or kids glorified the Crips seen on T.V
This shit is too slow. Where is the stories that dislike who cares about your story? No one cares about my story.
What do you think you’re gonna get famous off your story what new/lady there’s a lot of people after the same story they just ain’t been heard yet so keep on trying
I'd like to come sit but I don't want to hear this s*** because this going to turn me back into something that I don't want to go back to
DONT. DO. THE CRIME. IF. YOU. CANT. DO THE. TIME. STUPID
this is a great documentary! absolutely life changing. thank you to all who shared their stories! awesome job!
When you hang around doing nothing with your life and know purpose you will become like the next statistic in life if you don’t have the quidance you need
I am so sick of prisoners who have committed murder cry about how awful prison is for them. They have no thought of the individual they killed and what they are missing(life) and no thought of the family and all the ways they are affected!
Oh poor babies you get searched, have to follow orders, bad food, miss your family!!! Sick sick ppl they are.
Oh you are just existing…..the one you killed is not even existing! Oh guards don't look you eye to eye so you feel like nothing…..the one you killed cannot look at anyone eye to eye especially their love ones! You are not rehabilitated…..so I don't care neither is the one you injured and killed! On and on your whinny comments can be refuted!
ALL OF YALL GANG MEMBERS ARE SO DUMB ! YOU LOOK & SOUND RIDICULOUS!
Powerful! i wish everybody good luck for life is the greatest canvas.
I was 💔 that guy didn't get parole. I think he will do more positive things outside than in prison. And yes unfortunately race is not the same
Moms destroy young males sorry you can't be a man so you can't raise one sorry Tupac you're wrong
Tacoma stand up
They should be released 🙏🏽
I don't associate with black people anymore.
As a og myself I was raised in the roughest hoods of all time in 80s and 90s and 2000s which Brooklyn nyc i became blood at like 9 years old the thing in my generation we was taught not to walk around with killing innocent people only thrones that are bad also not to kill our own people not to use weapons less you got to. I was in it for 17 years. I had to do lots of things yea but never murder no one never used weapons or anything else like that. We just hustlers so I hate the younger people cause they act reckless. They don't listen dont care about anything the rules the regulations the laws that the Bible says to do. The alphabet. They dont care .they murder the are rapists they are molesters they are domestic violence situations they murder innocent people always they always murder eachother and we wasn't even taught that by our og fathers I got jumped out at 25 .I started it 9 years old ! And I changed my life over to Christian pentecostal. I repented. I never did anything wrong again I tell people the truth about everything going with this. This a sht for the ghettos the roughest area the poorest people that are struggling to survive can't pay for anything live struggling to eat shelter pills paid addiction parents or foster care or abuse or parents died. Etc. Or raise in the gang life
I was a foster care I got abuse from my foster care so I ran away also I had no parents also I lived in poor and poverty and wasn't eating no shelter no money nothing. So I ran away joined the gang. And I switch my life long ago. I overcame hell and back. I survived everything. And I own my own businesses. I got a great job makinggood money. I went to school. I overcome so much. And by god helping me. Protect me being there. And you to can do it .. .and this life not yours only temporary. You got to push out like I did. All is possible through Jesus christ almighty. Im the walking testimony of this. Ok. So keep strong and keep your head up.
My cousin doing life for killing, raping woman's he had a good father, mother who was living together married, either on drugs sometimes it has nothing too do with parents it's bad company or drugs or both or being in the wrong place or mistaken for being something you're not
Fast money sound good but in the long run it's death or prison, I work from age14 by babysitting then work at a mental hospital at age19 then join bands and your sing but everything I did was legal and my whole life was about struggles but I kept my hope, never give up hope and praying is how I made it through all my life struggles
Most kids and adults who release from jail, prison ends up back in, because they'e can't handle the outside some because what they'e experience inside like being best up or worst rape
I judge no one nobody perfect everybody makes mistakes, life not easy
This documentary was incredibly well laid out—truly powerful and deeply moving. Having lived on both sides of this story, I felt a profound connection to the voices and experiences shared. The beauty and light radiating from these amazing humans is nothing short of inspiring. As that incredible woman so wisely said, those with lived experience hold the answers to what they need to heal, grow, and uplift their communities. I hope we continue to listen, learn, and empower. Thank you for creating something so impactful and necessary.
This documentary should be trending though provoking

I think we should lay the oppression mindset aside and realize the cartels are behind the crack epidemic and African Kings sold their own

I did 75 months with this guy kimonti in Monroe. He was doing good things in there running a lot of programs to help inmates to stay out of trouble in there.
As a white ex-con, addict, & active prisoner in California for 14yrs. I did the crime & paid the time. Only turning to Jesus Christ with all my ❤ have I been made free, not just set free. All glory to God Almighty!
