The economic crisis in Germany has taken a troubling turn as industrial giants like Volkswagen, Ford, and Thyssenkrupp announce massive layoffs in an effort to combat financial difficulties. These job cuts come as a blow to the German workforce and signal a deepening crisis in the country’s industry.
Volkswagen, a symbol of German engineering prowess, recently made headlines with plans to reduce employee pay and close factories. Now, Ford and steelmaker Thyssenkrupp are following suit, with thousands of jobs in Germany at risk. These layoffs are a stark reminder of the challenges facing Europe’s top economy as it struggles to emerge from a period of economic stagnation.
The question now is how Germany will be able to dig itself out of this hole. With job losses mounting and uncertainty looming over the future of key industries, policymakers and business leaders will need to work together to find innovative solutions to revive the economy. The German government’s response to this crisis will be crucial in determining the country’s economic outlook in the coming years.
As Germany grapples with this latest wave of layoffs, it is clear that tough decisions and bold actions will be needed to navigate the challenges ahead. The fate of the country’s industrial sector hangs in the balance, and the road to recovery may be a long and arduous one. Only time will tell if Germany can overcome this crisis and emerge stronger on the other side.

I heard Presidents with excellent PR get billions of dollars from USA. Olaf can try.
Energy or electricity costs in Germany have gone up, this adding to high operational costs. The German Government must just work with Russian Government to restore the gas pipeline which was sabotaged. They must work together to ensure the supply of cheap Russian gas is resumed. This will definitely assist in reducing energy costs and therefore operational costs. It will definitely benefit German industries. That is the truth. It is sad to see Germany suffering like this from a situation that could have been avoided.
Germany blow nirth stream and basically sacrificed its energy strategy to have NATO expansion
'We've been too dependent on Russian Gas'. Luckily, our EU leaders found other suppliers that are way more expensive but have the same values as us. That will protect Ukraine from loosing the war. And thanks to green energy we will compensate the expensive energy. We don't worry, because even if the war is lost and the green deal does not work, Trump will save us all.
For cheap energy like many mention to replace what was getting from russia – Germany needs to go with newer technology nuclear generation systems like France is doing. Needs to move away from more costly green methods as not now viable for less cost.
Lidl Mark Whalberg has a terrible Internet connection.
The problem is that if you check all these videos, the story told by one doesnt match up with the other. Last video I saw, a few days ago, was about how people shouldnt retire early, how germans need to work x, y, z and overall lack of labor tc. Now jobs are being cut and I doubt its because people are just "not doing overtime". There seems to be a mismatch of themes around. Electric vehicles, renewables etc is not a dude's fault for not working overtime… it is a strategic mistake by higher management for not pursuing oportunities/reading the market (who will most likely get to keep their jobs). The other day, whatever ministry also said "oh yeah, china's cars huahuahuahua", wth happened?
Interviewees should avoid using bluetooth or wired esrphones, and use a proper microphone
People looking to buy German cars would do well to be cautious, because the cost of ownership has gone through the roof. Also, the manufacturer really doesn’t stand behind their products, they try and sell extended warranty’s. But why? If the car is so good and reliable, what’s the need to push extended warranty’s von everybody. The Europeans are the trend setter on autotech. Whatever they do everybody follows them. Therefore, I think all modern cars are a scam.
The auto industry is a 19/20th century industry. the world is changing and they have to change. – How about getting into military equipment as an interim step and stay on track with modern technology implementation.
The German government has to get serious about modernization and digitalization and infrastructure, as long as they can borrow money they must do so. It seems that there is no capacity in the industry to divert there at reasonable cost to society.
Oh and all things considered, they have to shed the historic guilt and become a confident and more patriotic nation proud of democracy and defenders of humanitarian values. – Europe times will get rougher and Germany needs to prepare now.
Let's remember Russia is offering gas to Germany all the time. Even what is left of the Nordstream pipeline could be put into operation very quickly, if only Germany wanted. Berlin is deciding every day again NOT to import gas from Russia, knowing full well that that is killing domestic industries.
Funny how you need to increase productivity to increase wages, but the bonuses of managers keep rising.
Your pricey product will be extinct
I have a stake in VW making it thru. However the company and employees will need to pay the price for their and their government idiocy in the last 20 years.
All for America
You went woke
And broke
This is the result of allowing a once powerful country like Germany to turn into a vassal state.
The problem is the unacceptable sound quality in a supposedly reputable German broadcast in 2024; the rest can be worked out by the Germans.
United States of America. No good
Digitalization is the German buzzword of the day that no one knows what it is. It’s CEO gobble de goop. The machine tool OEMs and their supply chain are dropping like flies right now…..very sad but all self inflicted. The new word of the day in Germany is now Insolvenzordnung!
German politicians have screwed up in a big way.
Germany must shut down all VW factories in China. Always put human rights and democracy above business.
In cutting off Russian energy, it was said that Germany was taking the decision to de-industrialize…. is this true?
How about investing in things like shipbuilding and other heavy industry which would be needed if China invades Taiwan? Because if a conflict over Taiwan is inevitable, it will be accompanied by a huge unwinding of commercial ties with China, so why not be better prepared for it (than the energy transition with Russia)?
Did Germany announce another billions dollar aid to Ukraine?
is not it great: capitalism is working!
no more pollution from VW and SAP
So your green energy policies made energy so expensive your factories cannot compete. Was it wise to shut down all your nuclear power plants, when nuclear is the safest energy solution of all energy producing options, combined? Now you will freeze and starve in the dark, brilliant policies. And no, you do not to make EV's they have plateaued, get your costs under control.
no VW and SAP, hey, so cool
BYD was founded in 1995, and Tesla in 2003. It’s unrealistic to expect century-old giants to innovate in the electric vehicle era with the same agility as younger companies. So, where are the startups in Germany or Europe?
exactly as the US told
Like other car manufacturers around the world, the car manufacturers of Germany need to get out of making cars and transition to making the something else that has yet to be defined.
Thanks to German government for showing loyalty by not subsidizing the industry. They are getting enough money to send to Ukraine
What else did they expect? They were warned and they did´t listen.
We pretty much lost the manufacturing industry to Asia and I agree that we need to invest and diversify our economies if we want to survive.
authentic German internet connection
Germany has demonstrated that their national policy is to empower their defense industry in alignment with the US policies even at the expense of their civilian industries. That's what the German government and majority of their want, then so be it. Let them enjoy their cakes.
Some improvements that can be made:
* Improve start-up ecosystem.
* Managers have become very much comfortable with their jobs. They do not promote innovation. Firing these kind of people should be made easy.
* Ban IGM. Remove Job security. There are many employees which are not productive and getting unnecessary salary. Only few workers are really productive.
* Remove salary limits. Once salary reaches a certain limit, hikes are very less. Salary should be based on the talent and how much someone can contribute.
* Encourage talent and innovation. Currently because of unnecessary job security and limit on the salary one can get, people do not feel encouraged as rewards are very less if someone want to provide extra value. In other words, why would someone try to innovate when others who are not innovating are also getting same salary.
* Encourage risk-taking. Companies like Google, Microsoft took risks, failed many times, but still they are successful because the products which are successful have helped these companies a lot financially.

Wha has happened, Germany?😅 Last time I’ve heard is that Germany is ok without Russian natural gas and that they can get it from the U.S.?
New fart of eu , once power house of EU.
This is horrible.
Instead of admiting it that they destroyed their own economy in war and energy sector, the propagenda machine is now giving random reasons to divert attention from the root cause of this problem. All surplus earnings over past 2-3 years are gone to war and on top of it, a shift from cheap energy resources proved to be the last nail in the coffin.
This is a self inflicted wound which will take a long time to rectify. The German politicians are not working in the interest of Germany but for China and USA.
This country is going down hill and no end in site.
