Netflix’s ‘His Three Daughters’ With Elizabeth Olsen Gets Fall Release

Netflix will drop acclaimed filmmaker Azazel Jacobs’ masterful “His Three Daughters,” a captivating family drama featuring the stellar talents of Natasha Lyonne, Carrie Coon and Elizabeth Olsen, in the fall movie calendar. Centering on three estranged sisters reuniting to care for their ailing father, the film will open in select theaters on Sept. 6 before hitting Netflix globally on Sept. 20, revealed to Variety exclusively, in addition to a new image shown above.

Also starring Jovan Adepo, Jay O. Sanders, Rudy Galvan, Jose Febus and Jasmine Bracey, Netflix acquired the worldwide rights for a reported $7 million following its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

Jacobs, renowned for his confident direction in indie hits like “The Lovers” (2017) with Debra Winger and “French Exit” (2020) with Michelle Pfeiffer, wrote, directed and edited this film. Variety’s chief film critic, Owen Gleiberman, praised Jacobs as “a filmmaker of effortless and moving assurance,” even comparing the film to a fast-talking version of Ingmar Bergman’s “Cries and Whispers” (1973).

Strategically, the release of “His Three Daughters” is brilliantly timed. It premieres just after the conclusion of the Telluride Film Festival and a week before Toronto, providing perfect counterprogramming for cinephiles.
