Owning a 103-Year-Old Vessel: Dream or Madness?
In the latest episode of Gone With the Wynns, Jason and Nikki embark on an exhilarating journey aboard a 103-year-old wooden yacht, the Argonaut 2. This vessel, with its rich history and unique charm, prompts a pressing question: is owning a classic boat like this a dream come true, or a fool’s errand?
Purchased by Nicholas, a dedicated enthusiast, Argonaut 2 is not just a boat; it’s a floating piece of maritime history. Originally launched in 1922, this double-ended motor yacht has traversed the Pacific Northwest, bringing with it tales of adventure, community, and even controversy. As Nicholas shares his story, viewers are transported through time, experiencing the joy and challenges of maintaining such a historic vessel.
Throughout the video, Jason and Nikki dive deep into what it really means to own a century-old boat. With sections dedicated to its engineering marvels—like the famed Gardner engine and manual helm—viewers gain insight into the simplicity and elegance of older marine technology. They also explore the necessary upkeep, revealing that, while rewarding, restoring such vessels involves a commitment to consistent maintenance and care.
The allure of classic wood boats doesn’t just lie in their aesthetics; it’s in the connections they foster. Nicholas discusses the incredible community of boat owners and enthusiasts who support one another, making the work feel less like a chore and more like a shared passion.
As the crew sets sail for Blind Bay, where they’ll enjoy a sunset dinner, viewers witness firsthand the enchanting lifestyle that comes with owning a vessel like Argonaut 2. From cocktails on the deck to sharing stories of the yacht’s storied past, the experience is both dreamy and daunting.
Ultimately, the video leaves us with a lingering question: Would you take on the challenge of owning such a vessel? Join Jason and Nikki as they navigate the intricacies of classic boating, and perhaps you’ll find yourself considering whether this journey is a dream worth pursuing—or a madness best avoided.

Madness, unless own a varnish company.
7:10 it's obviously called an ARGO-knot. 👍👍👍
Very cool, I want one. I’ve had several antique cars, but never a boat.
The ornamental knot on the ship's wheel is a Turk's Head.
Modern fenders? An iPad?? Solar panels!? What is this heresy???
He,s chums with Leo from Tally Ho. Such a beautiful boat.
First time I've seen a channel promoted like this, completely threw me! Duh… I've caught up now. 🙄
Nuts! Get a 50+ Cat!
Ow ya! Glory to our Heavenly Righteous Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit! Love the stories and cool boat!
Beautiful vessel. Hopefully you guys get the trawler like the last one you took down from Alaska to Washington.
Just her inability to turn the wheel is tge deal killer… if it was ever a considération!
She is a gorgeous vessel xx
At a 100 years old, it sounds like it will be Trigger's broom.
We created built in obsolescence so we have to keep buying things. That is what keeps the economy going. A refrigerator is a prime example.
It’s the Gardener engine that gives you that sound and the dry stack.
Good to see Argonaut II again. Past episodes of Sampson Boat Co with Talley Ho and Leo were joint adventures. Small world.
Love this. What a wonderfully unique boat and guy. Definitely supporting his channel.
Terrific boat, owner and your interview! Thank you guys!
Come check out my motor sailor with classic lines and sails!
The auto piolet , Wood Freeman was my neighbor, well his son was my neighbor, who owned the Wood Freeman Auto Piolet Co. in 1964 tell now, but I think his son or the family owns it now, I have had a tour of the small business in Tacoma. I grew up with the kids. The business is now closed, but still owned buy the family. They had a display of all the auto piolets from the 1900s until they stopped production, that was cool to see. that was in late 70s early 80s I think. I'm 71
An antique like that would make for great content. A nice change from all the modern cats that the other big sailing channels all use.
" i love the sound it makes" yeah… that's the sound of maintenance 😂
Maybe I am just a hopeless romantic, but I loved this boat! It felt like stepping into a Jules Verne novel. Brass gauges, an air-start engine, and stories carved into every plank. 🤤 But I am really curious to hear what you think of it all!
