Police Superintendent says New Orleans truck attack driver was determined to cause carnage

A horrific attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans has left at least 15 people dead and more than 30 others injured. The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, is a U.S. citizen from Texas and Army veteran. According to police superintendent, Jabbar was ‘hellbent’ on creating carnage as he intentionally rammed a pickup truck into crowds of people.

The FBI is actively investigating the case and they do not believe Jabbar was solely responsible for the attack. Tom Llamas reports from Bourbon Street with updates on the investigation, while Jesse Kirsch highlights the absence of physical barriers normally used to protect pedestrians, which were removed for repairs.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill discusses the incident with Lester Holt, and Tom Winter reports on the status of the FBI investigation into the suspect, his travels, and reported improvised explosive devices found in the area.

This tragic event has shocked the community of New Orleans and raised questions about security measures in place to prevent such attacks. The authorities are working diligently to uncover the motives behind this senseless act of violence.
