Homeless and couch surfing… Last thing a person in that situation needs to think about is the value of said friend's couch for deduction to their already paltry SSI payments.

Republicans trump fault
Took me nearly three years, but they finally relented on their false claim of nearly $10k overpayment. Quite annoying, but extremely satisfying in the end.
I'm grateful for my SSI, but I fear a "clawback" notice every day. Although, I'm not doing anything wrong. Moreover, the byzantine SSI program desperately needs to be updated. I understand the goal of the SSI program is to encourage people to get off the program & return to work, but some people just are not capable of doing that. The program keeps the recipients who can not truly work in poverty. There has to be a way to rectify this egregious situation & get the ones who can work back to work.
What smells like shoe polish?
Wouldn't yiu normally know how much SSI you will receive beforehand? If they then suddenly keep increasing it, outside of the regular intervals for these increases, I would start looking into it….
❤❤❤❤😊
Why should someone be punished for an error on their side??
Isn’t the SS offices job to manage and maintain consistent records? If you send out payments and YOU messed up, that’s on you, not the retired vet on a fixed income. It’s so gross that you’d even try to renege on payments made to someone, especially people with low incomes that have expensive medical bills.
They suspended my social security with no warning three months ago. I filed an appeal. But for how long will I not get paid? So worried!
I am a Victim of being overpaid 10k by the Fed Gov because of my SSDI approval and back pay. I made request to have the debt forgiven but it was denied. This is a financial hardship on me and it’s wrong.
I got one of those. 😢
What about all the illegals that took social security and never worked is SS after them to pay back they are ripping American people off
This is such a scary thing for all of us. How the hell is the average citizen supposed to know what benefit is right especially when Social Security sends you their annual benefit statement? If you start poking around to find out if you’re ok that could raise Social Security’s eyebrows and eventually open a can of worms for you. WTF people.
There is no reason you shouldn't know how much you should be getting paid. It's your responsibility
This is what the FBI wants from me
Hold people accountable at SSA. There needs to be consequences. Not some back door way that allows them to commit any error and bear no responsibility. The US Congress has abjectly failed in its role. And this, I know, surprises no one! Congress is a joke. It is just a "Club" of Politicians grifting to become wealthy!
There are so many variables in the amount you receive at retirement and it is NOT accurate on the social security site or on statements in the mail. It is NOT easy to calculate this yourself either. Every time I go to the SS office the amount is different and all they say is this is an estimate. Really??? Now when you receive a change in payments it's YOUR fault.
They would call for audits an still get my hit years later for it !!
It’s almost like the people that are in charge of us who govern these social benefits either are the most incompetent humans on the earth OR they’re in on it. That’s the only things it can be. Both are bad so what’s really going on??
Thank you, consider a headline "Promise Broken"
***One of Trump's signature campaign promises was "No tax on Social Security." Because actually eliminating taxes on Social Security benefits was too costly and procedurally difficult, Republicans instead settled on upping the standard deduction for seniors."
That's not fair !!!! That made the mistake !!!!!!!
Lazy, overworked group of people easily defrauding people of their benefits to put it back in the governments hand.
So, now we gotta do someone else's JOB!
