Sean Kingston was released from police custody on Wednesday (June 5) on $100,000 bond, according to documents obtained by Billboard and first reported by TMZ.
The “Beautiful Girls” singer was able to use his mortgage as collateral. After he was released, Kingston took to Instagram to share a post noting that it’s “great to be home,” before thanking God, his friends, family and his legal team. See the post here.
The news comes a week after Kingston was arrested in California and signed papers waving his right to fight extradition to Florida. On Sunday (June 2), he was booked into Broward County jail, according to the Associated Press. Both the singer and his mother, , 61-year-old Janice Turner, are charged with committing more than $1 million worth of fraud in his home state.
Kingston was initially taken into custody on May 23 after performing at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert. His mother, meanwhile, was arrested the same day when his rental Fort Lauderdale mansion was raided by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies and the Davie Police SWAT team. According to NBC News, the warrants allege that from October to March, the pair stole almost $500,000 in jewelry, more than $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank and $86,000 from a customized beds manufacturer.
The duo’s attorney Robert Rosenblatt, previously shared in response, “We look forward to addressing these [charges] in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.”
