Snowstorm Warning Issued for Certain Areas in Wisconsin and Michigan

A powerful winter storm continues to impact large swaths of Wisconsin and Michigan, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing multiple Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for affected regions through early Sunday morning.

Forecasters warn of heavy snowfall, strong winds, treacherous travel conditions, and the potential for power outages in some locations, especially in areas with wet, heavy snow accumulating on trees and power lines.

Door County, Wisconsin Under Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has extended a Winter Storm Warning for Door County through 3 AM CST Sunday, forecasting 5 to 8 inches of heavy snow, particularly across the county’s northern tier, including Sturgeon Bay, Fish Creek, and Sister Bay.

“We’re monitoring a system capable of producing heavy, wet snow which increases the risk of falling limbs and scattered outages,” said a meteorologist with the NWS Green Bay office. “Drivers should expect hazardous road conditions, especially overnight.”

In addition to slick roads, snow-laden trees could pose risks to infrastructure. Residents are advised to limit travel, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential disruptions.

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Faces Widespread Snowfall

Across the border in Michigan, the National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for multiple counties, including Keweenaw, Houghton, Ontonagon, and Gogebic, effective through 7 AM EST Sunday. Snowfall in these areas is expected to reach 3 to 5 inches, with wind gusts up to 35 mph, particularly impacting elevated terrain near the Porcupine Mountains and the spine of the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Further south, Marquette, Alger, and Baraga Counties could see 4 to 8 inches in higher elevations, making travel especially dangerous on rural and hilly roads.

Advisories Issued Across Northeast Wisconsin

Additional Winter Weather Advisories remain active in Northern and Southern Marinette Counties, as well as the Green Bay metro region, including Brown, Calumet, Manitowoc, and Kewaunee Counties. Snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with advisory expirations ranging from midday to midnight Saturday.

Officials urge caution, particularly in areas experiencing additional accumulation on already slick surfaces, and remind motorists that visibility may be reduced during heavier bursts of snow.
